    Default Quango Count

I'd like this thread to try to identify as many quangos as possible. One point for the name and initials of the Quango, one extra point for giving the area / topic in which it operates and who the chief exec is, giving the chief execs salary as well (2008n or 2009 rates) gets a bonus point.

A sticky with the 'quango hunters leaderboard' will be posted.

I'll compile all the responses into a list. And I'll make this topic a 'sticky'. MUST be true quangos, i.e. like regional government offices where non elected people make decisions about peoples lives and taxes, not like the CBI which is self-funding from the businesses it represents.

Lets go and hunt some quango's!!

Those in the top 3 of the leaderboard get extra rep on a weekly basis!!

In our area (Lancaster) we tend to hear a lot about things like the 'Local Strategic Partnership', the Local Area Agreement (LAA), the 'Lancashire Locals', the Children's Trust, which seems to be a nested set of Quangoes with a Lancashire (County Council) central organisation, a Children's Trust Board, and local subordinate versions.

Some of these are set up by the Lancashire County Council, and Lancaster City Council, but sometimes they tend to have input from the police and the health services.

There is also a worrying tendency towards 'regionalisation', asd a way of subordinating the elected County Council or Local Council structures to the Govt. Office of the North West. One recent example of regionalisation was with the coming to an end of the LSC (Learning and Skills Council) and its intended replacement with something similar - can't remember what the name of this will be, but it's something like Regional Partnership.

I have another one for you. I’m not cetain if this £800 million will be formulated as quangos, but it appears to serve quango-like functions.

Please welcome the Ministry of Siestas.

C_steam: a full list can be viewed here...

Every quango in Britain - The Guardian, 07/07/09.

"It's not easy to get this info out of the Cabinet Office but, thanks to Matthew Sinclair at the Taxpayers Alliance, we now have a full list. And when I say full, this list includes all 1,164 quangos, their staff numbers and how much they spend and receive in funding."

Can I have 1,164 rep points, please.

They are government propaganda agencies and in my view should be paid for out of the donations to the Labour Party.

They are all winners of the Green Tourism Business Scheme Award in recognition of their efforts to care for the South West. Please use the 'Feel Good, Go Green' button on the right hand side to search for these.

You will also find that they have copper bottomed, watertight contracts that successive governments, local and central, will have to spend an absolute fortune in order to break free.
For instance, Havant Borough Council have contracted out "customer" services to Capita on an eight year contract.
