Scotland Yard chief Sir Ian Blair faces race discrimination claim by senior colleague - Telegraph
Scotland Yard chief Sir Ian Blair faces race discrimination claim by senior colleague By Richard Edwards, Crime Correspondent Last Updated: 8:06PM BST 25/06/2008 Scotland Yard chief Sir Ian Blair is facing a leadership crisis as Britain's top Asian policeman prepares to sue him for racial discrimination. Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, one of Sir Ian's most senior colleagues and formerly a close ally, has drawn up legal documents claiming he has been humiliated, undermined and subjugated by the Metropolitan Police. He is understood to allege that he was silenced over his concerns about the 42-day detention debate and sidelined by Sir Ian in key decisions. One senior colleague said relations between the two have become so bad that they will not speak to each other - an accusation denied by Sir Ian. Mr Ghaffur, who is in charge of planning security at the London 2012 Olympics, is said to believe that his poor treatment has undermined his role in preparations for the Games. The dramatic developments have sent shock waves through Scotland Yard and amongst senior officers nationwide. The past few years of Sir Ian's reign as Commissioner have been beset with infighting amongst senior officers. But one source said there was now "open warfare" at the top ranks of Scotland Yard. The embattled Commissioner was separately accused earlier this week of sidelining black and Asian detectives to surround himself with a "golden circle" of handpicked favourites. Commander Shabir Hussain told an employment tribunal he was effectively victimised because Sir Ian used his "very significant influence" to earmark his chosen officers for promotion at the cost of other candidates. The mounting crisis for the Scotland Yard chief also comes as the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, who was shot dead in a bungled anti-terrorism operation three years ago, looms over the Met. It is due to be heard in September. It is understood there are four main issues that have prompted Mr Ghaffur to take action against Sir Ian, the Metropolitan Police Authority and its chairman, Len Duvall. They included a failure to renew his five-year contract - due to end in March 2009 - when other officers of a similar level have had theirs renewed. The Assistant Commissioner was given a one-year contract. Mr Ghaffur is also understood to allege Sir Ian has excluded him from key Olympic security planning meetings, and he claims he was allegedly browbeaten to keep quiet about his reservations that new laws to detain terror suspects for 42 days were unnecessary. Because of these matters, he says his relationship with Sir Ian has broken down, a source said. Mr Ghaffur has employed a senior barrister to draw up legal papers. He is now in the final stages of considering whether to formally submit them to the force and commence an employment tribunal claim. The National Black Police Association has backed Mr Ghaffur in his plans and president Ali Dizaei said he was aware of the chief's concerns. He said: "It will be a sad day for the police service if one of the UK's most respected senior ethnic minority police officers is forced to challenge his treatment in court. "The negative effect of such an action on recruitment and on trust and confidence in policing, in particular with minority ethnic communities, will be significant and cannot be under-estimated." Mr Ghaffur, who was at the Association of Chief Police Officers annual conference in Liverpool yesterday speaking about the Olympics, refused to comment but did not deny the claims. "I'm not able to say a word. I cannot comment," he said. A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "The Metropolitan Police Service is unaware that an employment tribunal application has been served or is in the process of preparation. If it is we regret and are disappointed that Assistant Commission Tarique Ghaffur has chosen to pursue such a course. AC Ghaffur is a respected senior police officer who has achieved a great deal. We have respect for his experience, skills and achievements. We are keen to listen to any concerns that he has and attempt to resolve them with him. "Any suggestion that the Commissioner will not speak to AC Ghaffur is absolutely untrue." Sir Ian and the Met also deny the allegations made by Mr Hussain at his ongoing discrimation tribunal. Another Scotland Yard source defended Sir Ian. "He has his critics but I do not believe he is a racist," he said. "On the one hand he is accused of being politically correct and on the other he is accused of racial discrimination. It does not add up." |

Oh dear.
As I've said before, those who live by the PC sword die by the PC sword. Or in the case of the slimy murderous traitor Blair somebody should sit on him while someone else - preferably Brazilian - blows his brains out. |

What is The National White Police Association saying about this?

I wouldn't normally have much sympathy for somebody like Ghaffur and what he is up to, but the more I see that he is standing up to the murderous bully Blair the more I am beginning to warm to him.
After all, the Bishop of Rochester has proveed that courageous Asians can be preferable to slimy degenerate whites. Perhaps that may be our destiny in this country. It's obvious that the British 'race' is finished, anyway. Maybe the decent Brits need new Oriental masters. Quote:
