Thought I'd start a thread on when people think the hypothetical antics of our government would reach the tipping point in which civil disobedience would be considered legit?
I see for example the police have voted on being allowed to go on strike which is a pretty big move on their part. Ea of dune |

It's already reached a tipping point with me, mind. I used to try to follow the law for the sake of following the law. Now I follow my own rules and only follow their rules to the extent of keeping myself out of the way of unpleasantness.

As John says, this is England - we seem to be the most obedient people on the planet.
Perfect example is the new parking fiasco where Norwich city council are going to charge business for parking spaces for employees. A lot of workers were interviewed and said something along the lines of: 'I resent paying this...but I'm going to have to'. As for the Police being allowed to strike, the government would be insane to allow such a thing.

"Never. This is England - almost entirely full of dim-witted morons who do what they're told." Same in Ecosse, They mostly watch football [I watched once with my Grandfater when I was 5]. Just typed Eccose - funny we never hear that word now.

I seem to recall there was mass civil disobedience against the Poll Tax in the early 1990's.
There have also been numerous riots on the streets mostly in the north of England by adherents of the religion of peace. There were also the mass demos against the Phoney War in Iraq as well. |

Yes I was wondering the same thing. The scenario that sprints to my mind is something like the protests against communist rule in eastern Europe, where people gathered in city centres, held candles and constantly blew whistles. If I recall correctly, this was enough to influence their oppressors.
The current national mood isn't anything like the national mood which sparked the protests which have been mentioned. Huge swathes of the working class and the middle classes are opposed to this government's policies. Previous protests were hijacked by extremists. |
