Just been on a short break in Belgium and France. It came to my notice what a bunch of tossers we me must be
Visiting a Town center ,couldn't find anywhere to park .After three laps of the town was waved down by a policeman and directed up a kerb outside a shop."Ok to park here they are closed today" he told us . Bit different to the Uk where they would have hid in a dark allyway untill we had stopped and slapped a parking ticket on us. Later in a resturant had a piece of raw steak, which they served with a hot stone, the idea being that you cook it to your liking as you eat, very nice too.Would the H&S allow this here? Later that evening (far too late if the truth be known) went outside a bar for a smoke,on returning found most of the locals had lit up. Was explained to me that apparently when I was offered a ciggy earlier they had thought I objected as I had declined the offer. No threat of a fine ,a day in court or public riddicule stopped them lighting up ,just the fact that they thought one person had objected. Maybe you could try it next time you visit the Red Lion "Anyone mind if I smoke ?" should go down well Missed my train comming back (too long in the pub again) no problem just get the next one,no extra charge, shaking of heads or taking of DNA just a wave and a "hope you enjoyed your stay, come again soon" Dont Know so much about getting out of Europe its The UK we want to get out of,or rather what the UK has Become...........Yes I think we are MAD |

I've Just been on a short break in Edinburgh. On a City Bypass roundabout on friday I had a revelation. - These people drive here EVERY day.
Then I remembered my 2 months working in London and the Underground. Was on a Sutherland estate and was told of someone in London who works in an office 2 floors below ground level and travels to work on the tube. It is so quiete here in the Highlands that when I moved to this house in the autumn, twice I rushed to the window to see what was going on. Leaves were blowing along the street. Townies are mad.

Better than this sh*thole thats for sure. Still you'll still get those "Rule Brittania" morons saying how great the Dunkirk spirit is when they're stuck in the breadline...... Yes we are not far behind the average dumbed down American (no disrespect to the true patriots)

No, I'm a gardener and veggie and herb grower instead. Golf courses are a mixed blessing as they have a lot of poison and fertilizers on the grass. If they could find a way round that golf courses could be genuine green lungs and wildlife reserves in cityscapes.

I have played many courses recently that have areas set aside as wildlife habitat where you are not allowed to enter.Have seen Deer stoats and grass snakes on a course not 10 minuites from central Croydon. Not all are up to speed but they are slowly getting the message that us golfers dont just play for the game but to get away from it all for 3-4 hours a week. |

![]() ![]() You've made me think of parks as well. Once wonderful places filled with flowers and trees and little ponds with goldfish, brides having their wedding pictures taken on a Saturday afternoon and families having picnics. Now so many are no-go zones for Mums with kids and populated by yobs with knives. Is there any good news on the park front yet? |
