I don't know exactly what Churchill said about atheistic Jews, but I expect if he did write or say something on the subject then it was carefully considered before he wrote/said it. I am not sure whether what he wrote/said was published at the time or were private thoughts only released after his death? In any case, it would be much more helpful if you quoted Churchill's actual words, so that we can evaluate what he did actually write/say.

We certainly have Churchill's views on Islam - or Mohammedanism as it used more accurately to be called. Here they are, verbatim:

Sutton, whose works are very informative in my opinion, rejects Churchill's view, and the idea of a Jewish conspiracy. For my own part, I have reserved judgement till I know more, though I certainly would be inclined to give Sutton a fair hearing. However I did want to draw attention to Churchill because it illustrates that the Jews were seen as a very destabilising influence upon western civilization by mainstream conservatives who were neither Nazi nor Muslim. Jews have, as a collective group, exercised far too much influence upon Europe, and this is the reason for the grievances against them - it is not a blind, irrational thing: the only question is whether it is misguided or not. Similar quotes could be provided from Martin Luther, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, Napoleon, Richard Wagner, H.G. Wells - really people should know this before assigning the cause to 'ignorance' in true pc fashion. These kinds of thoughts used to be standard enough that one even finds them quite unapologetically in the works of Dickens.

REPLY: Um, Imperium, before you start urging people to 'acquaint themselves with the Old Testament', might I respectfully suggest you might benefit from a re-reading of parts of Genesis yourself?

Basically, Joseph wisely advised the Pharaoh to store up grain etc. during seven years of plenty. That meant that when seven years' famine struck the Middle East and North Africa, the Pharaoh was able to meet his people's needs - and those from lands beyond. His father Jacob and his children (who many years earlier had left him in a pit for dead and brought back a blood-stained coat to their father saying that a bear had killed him) were so desperate that they had to migrate to Egypt to avoid starvation. There they were helped with free grain and provisions by Jospeh, who meantime had been deservedly promoted by the Pharaohs to no less a position than Prime Minister of Egypt.

His father and brothers didn't recognise him at first. When he eventually told them that he was their long-lost son and brother, it led to emotional reunion scenes, with Joseph sobbing so loud that the whole of the Pharoah's palace could hear him (Genesis 45 v 2).

Earlier, the handsome Joseph distinguished himself by resisting the provocative advances of the wife of Egyptian potentate Potiphar, leading to the world's first recorded instance of a woman falsely crying 'rape'. On suspicion that the woman's accusation was true he was thrown into a dungeon for two years (Genesis 39).

Joseph was held in such esteem by the Egyptian nation and its leaders that he had a state funeral and Joseph was allowed to be buried back in his homeland. And the Jews were allowed to settle in eastern Egypt (Goshen), where they remained for 400 years until the Exodus.

If you can fault Joseph at any point after he was unceremoniously bundled into a pit and abandoned for dead, please supply the Biblical reference.

If you can't, please fully reconsider your remarks both about Joseph in particular and about the Jews in general...

REPLY: No.

Israel was the new name given by God to Jacob when he was 64 years of age. From then on he was known as 'Israel', as were his descendants - until later times when Judah became most prominent tribe (after the 10 northern tribes were exiled to Assyria) and then they gradually became known as 'Jews'. The Palestinians do not descend ftom Israel/Jacob.

Nor do the Palestinians descend from Jacob's father Isaac. Isaac was one of two half-brothers. The Arabs and Palestinians descend from Isaac's half-brother Ishmael. The Israelites/Jews descend from Isaac
