Apprentice Boys to march in city

A parade by the Apprentice Boys of Derry is to be held on Saturday for the second successive year in Inverness. The event marking the anniversary of the formation of one of the organisation's newest clubs has met opposition from Highland councillors. Inverness councillor John Holden said the parade should be reconsidered.

Well I'm a highlander but also boasting Irish, Catholic blood and from near Mallaig and being raised a Catholic myself. My family were stauch Scots nationalists and once Jacobites so I have no sympathy for these guys but let the idiots do what they want for the usurpers from the Ulster provinces of Ireland.

Ireland brought occupation on itself by interfering in the English civil war when the Irish we're going to send troops in support of Charles the 2nd ....that act in itself was a declaration of war against the English people.

As my English friends say: You fly with them crows - you get shot with them crows!

It was Charles I and the original invasion happened in the 12th century and continued from there. Cromwell's invasion was not what I was talking about.

Anyway the Irish nobility were simply supporting what they saw as their King, they were not interfering in anyway. Btw parliament didn't represent the English people, it represented the aristocracy. As I recently read in a history of the Tory party by Fielding, it is not an untrue reading of the conflicts between King and parliament in the 17th century to suggest the King much better represented the average man. But in the end aristocracy was what mattered on both side, royalist and parliament, tory and whig.

And it wasn't just the English that invaded Ireland, the Scots did it too and stole the Irish people's land.

The English were just defending themselves in the 12th and 17th century’s and successfully it seems – we Vikings would have done the same if some hostile neighbour had attempted to invade and force an alien religion onto us!

What the hell are you talking about? You are talking absolute rubbish, how the hell were Normans defending themselves when they first invaded Ireland in the 12th century? And to ignore the gradual Scottish and English takeover of Ireland its land as you have done is almost as silly as they way you are trying to paint the Anglo-Irish nobilities support of Charles I as an Irish invasion of England.

And it seems like you Vikings have done quite enough invading anyway.
