An interesting proposal. What about the many parents who are loyal to Britain, England, Scotland, whatever, but don't approve of the monarchy?
What do they tell their kids? To swear the oath but to not really swear it, to not take it seriously?
Won't this denigrate the oath, as something to be taken seriously? My guess is a lot of parents will refuse to let their kids do it.
This whole idea is just more papering over the cracks by Labour. It's fragmented British society with its immigration `policies' and now it's trying to make it look cohesive.

I swore my oath in the 50s,I won't be doing it again,for anyone,they have taken advantage of my allegiance as far as I'm concerned.

You're right, it is. Mass Oaths, Citizenship Days etc are done by countries that have no real history and have had to artficially create bed-rocks of national identity. Not to mention dividing the country in half between those that have and haven't 'sworn' an oath.

Let's appreciate the real national bonds such as our traditions of freedom, independence and liberty, Magna Carta, individual rights etc. Then maybe we'll all realise what we lost and how to get it back!
