P.S. People DID bring their garbage to the council. Plenty of people. It did no good what so ever. People asked move the recycling collection to weekly at least as that was one of the councils reasoning behind fortnightly collections, to increase recycling though how that is meant to increase when you don't pick it up is beyond me. The councils answer to too much recycling to fit in the bins provided? Take it to the tip!
Must be horrible having smelly rubbish outside your houses especially in the summer. So dumping rubbish at the council doors had no effect? Should have put old ladies tan coloured tights over your heads and tipped the rubbish over the council workers heads as they left to go home, then run away really fast. As for taking rubbish to the tip, what if you don't have a car? Seems fly tipping is the only option, that's what I would do, I'd take the attitude that it wouldn't be my problem.

Organise 500 of you to take your rubbish bags and dump them on the steps of the town hall. They could never arrest all of you. Maybe they'll take notice?

That's the trouble I think. There weren't enough of us who cared to THAT extent. Too many folks around here roll over and play dead or think that complaints to the little local newspaper will make the council see sense! Obviously this doesn't work very well. Though more recently my council have made other rediculous decisions that are getting the folks here to work together and fight back at town meetings and at the polls! Thanks be and I hope it continues. I will be the first one protesting if they try the pay as you throw business.

We fly tip, we have to.

We have a fortnightly collection of one bin only and an alternative fortnightly collection of a bin of things for recycling.

But things for recycling are very limited. Tins, but they must be washed and dried before being placed in the bin, only certain plastics, plastic bottles must have the tops removed, certain kinds of paper products, it’s a joke. ”.

As a result the “****” bin is over full several days before collection, and the “recycle bin” is usually only about a quarter full.

Worse yet there’s a group of “jobsworths” from the local council Turkey Army that inspect the recycle bin on a regular basis and issue a warning if they find the “wrong kind of rubbish.

So we end up fly tipping. The thing is that it’s a thing that once started you tend to go on.

Over the last few weeks I’ve “lay-by’ed” several half empty tins of paint, several gallons of anti freeze, loads of old engine oil, a couple of old car batteries, a fridge, and a couple of mattresses, and regularly weekly food waste (no room in the bin) and I have not a moments qualms about doing so.

The council will have to clear the stuff away, I pay the disgustingly high council tax, and so if they won’t do what they should for the asking then they will do it out of necessity.

It’s past time that local councils (and politicians) got it straight in their heads that they are public servants, NOT public managers.
