As it happens, the unit of time is the same in both Imperial and SI - the second.

SI is good for some things. And, there are some things for which there is no Imperial equivalent.
I agree with your approach! Choice and flexibility are key but, where there is only the one system of measurement, that will be used.

We do not need to go into pre-history to justify a rational approach now.

Yes - their version of Imperial.
My wife is keen (and talented) cook. Being American, many of her recipes are in “Imperial” units. Ingredients here in UK are mostly in metric units. No problem. I can do all the conversions. But there is a little catch and that’s the difference in what the measurements actually mean.
A pint isn’t a pint, a cup isn’t a cup etc.
That could be resolved if only there was a truly international standard for measurements……………oh wait…………there is.

Sorry, meant decimal rather than metric in time, but a lot of metric arguments are based on decimalisation and thereby ease of use. If the metre wasn't decimal based we could divide it into more sensible units such as eighths (easier for computer programming).

A kilobyte is not 1000 bytes so the system is already confused. A kilometre is an arbitrary decimal figure - 1000. A kilobyte, at 1096 bytes, is actually more logical, but should be called something else.

True, but ease of use goes quite a bit further than just the arithmetic. It has compatibility of units. A quick example.....

Power from a rotating shaft:
SI
P=Tw

Imperial
P=2pNT/33000
