HighlandFP, I wonder what has made you convert to Islam. I just can't get my head around winged horses and Mo memorising God's word from Gabriel and dictating it to scribes. The worst bit is the Satanic Verses where Mo went to heaven, returned, dictated some verses that created sub-gods and then went back to be told by a perfect, all-knowing God that he had changed his mind! How come Allah didn't get it right first time?

At least Christ was educated and surrounded himself with the self-employed and petit bourgeoisie. Carpenters, being also housebuilders, were at the top of the tree in first century Nazareth; try being a carpenter/house builder if you can't read a plan and take detailed measurements.

Obviously Islam makes someone so intelligent that they can judge someone's personality from a few posts on an internet discussion board.

I am not bitter I just like the human rights we enjoy here which we would not have an Islamic country, and I want the freedom of speech we used to have in this country - before Muslims came here - again. It is awful that Salman Rushdie had to go in hiding and that you can not publish the Mo cartoons here.
Also I do not want my wife to be blown up by a pedophile worshipper on the tube.

However I am not bitter and am quite happy that it is Friday and sunny.

I watched the opening introduction, I do not have enough life to watch the rest.

The opening speakers were offensive enough.

To boast that with only 2% of the population of SA being Muslim they succeeded in stopping Salman Rushdie from speaking sums it all up.

It is not a boast that a small, vociferous and violent minority has prevented the other 98% of a country's population from having access to free speech. The Chairman of the meeting has pushed me further from Islam and made me more inclined to agree with those who state that it is the intention of Islam to control the world and subjugate us to its inherent barbarism; I have just heard it from the horse's mouth. Thanks HighlandFP for opening my eyes to the offensive and intolerant nature of your mediaeval belief system.

I have read the Satanic Verses; I read it deliberately after the first copy was publicly burned.

Your coreligionists have no right to tell those of us who do not believe in their fairy stories what we may or may not read, what we may or may not look at, how our wives and girlfriends may or may not dress, what we should or should not think about the Holocaust (it did happen, and Bosnian Muslims collaborated), what we may or may not eat (hal-al is barbaric and pork is delicious), whether we might get drunk or not and whether we can sh@g around or not.

Christianity allows of free will; if I sin, I sin and if I feel guilt I can repent.

Islam means submission and that vile inroductory speech made it clear that that is what is wanted. Thanks again, HighlandFP, I am less tolerant as a result, and that hurts me inside as I pride myself on my tolerance. The Chairman of that gathering frightened me. He won't let me read a book and he wouldn't let the author speak to me, yet I haven't joined his cult.
