Wounded Iraq veterans driven out of public pool when told they might scare children | the Daily Mail

Soldiers who suffered appalling injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan were verbally abused as they swam in a public swimming pool.

During a weekly rehabilitation class at a council leisure centre, 15 servicemen – including several who have lost limbs or suffered severe burns – were heckled and jeered by members of the public.

One woman was so incensed that the troops were using the pool at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in Surrey that she told them they did not deserve to be there.

My only question about these women is which branch of the Lib Dems do they work for?

I can see where the sight of severely wounded men or women might be upsetting to small children. The fault if any, lies with the F*****g idiots that programmed the session in the first place, it would not have been beyond the wit of man to have arranged a session when the service personnel could have the pool to themselves.

I agree, It is terrible behavior.

I am very pleased to see it recieving such publicity, which can only help the £5 million campaign for a dedicated pool at Headly court. Soldiers who have given up so much for us should never be hidden away, but should not have to travel to a public pool in the first place.

The story I refer to is where the mothers of some small children complained to management about the presence of severely injured service personnel causing the children to be afraid.

I don't know where you got the story about "jeering" women, or have you/they hyped it up so as to be more sensational?.

Here's my version in an extract from a letter a retired Officer wrote to the Daily Telegraph.
"the woman who complained about their presence in the swimming pool at Leatherhead leisure centre"
Believing this to be, probably, the more mundane and true version of events, my comments stand.

Whilst I'm at it, my soubriquet is Little Englander (sour), it was Little Englander until "call me" Dave made a speech in Edinburgh and added sour, ignorant and uneducated. I couldn't very well use all of them.
