Default A nice little earner

£1m a month from motorists fined for using their mobiles | the Daily Mail

Quote:
The Government is making £1million a month from motorists who are fined for using mobile phones at the wheel.

Figures obtained by The Mail on Sunday show the number caught rose by almost 40 per cent last year to nearly 200,000. Errant drivers paid more than £5.7million in fines for the offence in 2006 but, with the minimum penalty having doubled to £60 in February, this could soar to more than £11million per year – even if the number of offenders remains the same.
Glad I have a hands free kit.

Would be nice to see imporvements in our public services filtering through with all this extra money they are making.

I see people driving around with phones on their ears all the time. I even saw a policeman with one the other day (while driving) and I also saw a police car drive by one woman who was nattering away on one.

They probably have crackdowns patch by patch, so they can take the most amount of money, while not ******* people off too much and making sure they keep taking the risk for future revenue reasons.

Target driven b0ll0cks again - this was all coverable under driving without due care and attention - but you had to prove it.

Like so many NuLab laws it's just away of taxing us

Simplest way to avoid the fine? Don't do it.

Talking on mobile phones has been the cause of lots of accidents, none better than the lorry driver on the M1 who was so distracted by his mobile phone that he didn't notice the queue ahead and ploughed into the back of an innocent woman's car at 60mph, crushing her to death.

The road deserves your complete and undivided attention. No, better yet, other road users deserve your complete and undivided attention.

Here we go, usual 'Police didn't catch the naughty man' ********. If no one comes forward with information, what are they to do? Start arresting random folks?

Policing is led by intelligence (although in Sir Ian's case we'll make an exception), not crystal balls.

We have to root out the inbuilt corruption in our police force first before we have a hope of it being effective,

It's a sad and really sick society we have where people are quite prepared to rat on others for speeding, illegal parking and using their mobile phones whilst in charge a a few tonnes of moving metal, but when it comes to murder, rape and assault no one wants to get involved.

There's a story on the British Police-state forum about a copper who was subject to abuse by members of the public as he arrested a knife-wielding maniac. Perhaps the same mob who would call the police because their neighbour had parked their un-taxed car on the road.

Rape and murder won't be given the required attention until they are offences which attract a fine. Government coffers are depleted if someone is sent to jail - if they are fined they are improved.
