It would now seem that even pagan festivals are not free from the mad PC culture...

Any "holiday" where kids are encouraged to knock on my door and bother me should be banned. Period.

I totally agree! "Trick or treat" has descended into a "legal" excuse for young yobs to go around banging on peoples doors trying to extract money from them. Carol singers are another thing I'd ban! If I want to give money to charity I'll give it, I don't want to feel pressured into it through guilt!

Oh, I don't know about that. If it's hot young totty singing "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" in tune and it's snowing, and they're not expecting any money, I can cope with that.

Look people, I don't really like kids knocking on my door that much either, but the point is:

1) They are KIDS and like everyone they should have the freedom of speech and expression that we all should have, and that the state seem so keen on us to lose. Because you don't LIKE soemthing it doesn't mean anyone has a right to stop it...

2) The article claims "in case it offends religious parents" - how can a bunch of kids offend in the name of religion ? I sincerely doubt the majority of parents(if any) would object to it on religious grounds......

This is just another example of "political correctness" and I'm sick of it - remember the term "political correctness" started in the gulags(camps) in Russia - and it's just a coded way of saying they are going to stop people doing something totally harmless.

It's like stopping children running in the playground on "health and safety" grounds - it's fascism, don't you get it ?

What we do at our church is offer an alternative fancy dress party on the day itself and for any member of the congregation who wants one the local police supply them with a sign stating they do not wish to be disturbed by trick or treat, some of our elderly members have been subject to some abusive behaviour in the past when they have refused to contribute to children knocking on their door.

At this rate the Communists EU will remove all Religious gatherings quicker than most thought.

After all,Communism has always tried to obliterate Religion from the the lives of the people.

It didn't work for them in Poland though because of the RC faith being about the only thing the people had and the Communists knew civil war would have taken place if it was to pressureise them too much.

Seems the Poles had their own "red lines" that were not to be crossed,by anyone, including the Communists skulking in their midst.

Hallowe'en the celtic festival of the new year is one of the oldest traditional festivals in the world. Over 2000 years old it will survive the mutterings of some taffy schoolteacher who should know better.
