I take your point and of course I don't condone abusive children, espicially to OAPS.

However I still believe cancelling a childrens disco on religious grounds is excessive and abusive to civil liberties to say the least.....

I certainly would not stop or seek to stop any such disco just I was pointing out how as a church we obviously dont encourage children to clelebrate pagan festivals so offer attractive alternatives.

The Pagan festival to which I think you refer was the night of the Samhain which was the end of the summer and begining of winter (a time of bad spirits)The Pagans would dance round the fire and generally have a good time to ward off the baddies. This celebration was highjacked by the christian church in 835 ad.The church called it All Hallows eve followed by All Hallows day/All saints day.Christians beliveing that goodwill and Jesus would conquer the bad spirits. The festival was collectivley known as Hallowe'en . So well done rjt after 1200 years of a mutual celebration you have decided to go it alone with your church .

Mischief night (nov 4) is a more recent happening when the boys of the village would get up to all sorts to raise money for fireworks and has nothing whatsoever to do with hallowe'en. Somewhere along the road it has attatched itself to the Hallowe'en festival.

So on October 31st I'll dance round the bonfire have a drop of the hard stuff and say my prayers.........goodnight and god bless

Yet more interference by self appointed busybodies.

Why can't people be left to their own devises - these things only build up tension - well it does with me anyway.

Apologies rjt ,not being a church goer I failed to realise when I said the Christian church highjacked the Hallowe'en festival I should have said the Catholic church.

No problem at all, as i have said we dont look to stop anyone but simply provide alternative celebrations and look to ensure some of the elderly in the Parish feel safe. it can be very intimidating for them and I know some have had eggs thrown at thier door and been sworn at for refusing to give in the past.

Indeed, if our kids can dress up an knock up
on peoples doors for some goodies once a
year in our communities in safety then that is
great, and a good reflection on our society
for whatever religion it may adhere to. Kids
going round intimidating the vunerable and
generally making a nuisance of themselves
is another thing, common sense and rational
thinking is the victim here.
