Well, I would say that it would certainly make a difference. If the punishment is severe then the number of people willing to risk the crime is dramatically reduced. It is by no means the whole solution but it would be an improvement.

We are talking about physically attacking someone with a weapon and stringing them up I do not think either have a place in any civilised society.

Any party that advocates theses measures risks sounding rather shrill in my view and obscuring the rest of their message.

I wonder what those who advocate the death penalty would sya to the realtives of a man/woman wrongly convicted.

Often I get told that as a Christian I should support the death penalty' eye fo an eye etc. So if someone in my family was wrongly executed who be killed in response, the judge, the jury, the police, the person who made the false complaint, a witness who got it worng.

I think the time has come for the hang em and flog em brigade to move aside and grow old gracefully, well as gracefully as they can. The issue of the death peanlty and the birch are non issues in this country and I hope they will stay that way.

Since time immemorial some humans have had a criminal streak, regardless of their upbringing or background. These people look upon kindness as being soft! It takes some sort of **** house to knock an old lady over to steal her purse! In my book the only good criminal is a dead one!

Nonsense. The crime rate is down to state responsibility, lack of work and education and poor policing.
