Another dose of political correctness by a bunch of whiners trying to erase history.

Oh whatever.
Someone tell the CRE that when they stop organisations employing racist practices by hiring minorities over White, heterosexual Britons purely on the basis of race/gender/sexuality in order to meet 'diversity targets' (e.g. The Police) then maybe we'll start listening.

I would have liked Borders to have told the CRE to shove their complaint in the Black Hole of Calcutta, but second best is moving it to the adult section.
Farting in public is also potentially offensive to many people, is that to be banned by legislation next? ![]()

The CRE is a publicly funded operation, they use our money for this, they create resentment where none would have previously been there in order to justify their own existence, it is an industry. I didn't hear many people in the CRE complaining when people held up posters outside the Danish embassy last year.

The thing that makes all this whingeing worse is that the books in question (Tintin) were written in the late 1920s and early 1930s when attitudes were very different. The author later said he had an outdated attitude when he wrote them, and would not repeat their like, but he did not disown them. They are sold today with a wrapper round 'em warning they have a content which some may find offensive. So what's the bloody problem ?
I'd have thought the CRE should be celebrating the fact that attitudes have changed and no respectable publisher nowadays would go anywhere near material that depicted black people as stupid or primitive. The phrase 'storm in a tea cup' springs to mind.

Another fine mess. If people truly found the book offensive they wouldn't buy it and it would go out of print. But giving it this kind of high profile is more likely to enhance sales.
I suppose my outlook wouldn't be considered pc but people have different attributes. History has shown that to be the case. It may be nature, nurture or happenstance. I don't know. But I think we should accept and embrace the differences. Legislation must be equal for all. Legislation can't make all equal. |

Lovely! There's nothing like a bit of free advertising to push up sales.

No doubt someone will pop up and claim that it is the BNP/NF that is going out and emptying the bookshops. Or that its racists who need a fix...
