Default 'Writers are being stifled by political correct rules'

ITV 1 Teletext reports on analogue page 318 (5.6.2007 at 2.29 pm) that "authors are finding it impossible to create villains because of political correctness."

Anthony Horowitz, author of the Alex Rider spy books says (according to Teletext) that it would be difficult to create a 21st century version of the characters Captain Hook or Long John Silver because it might upset some if "the bad guy" was disabled and he doubted that he could make the "bad guy" character overweight.

Teletext reporte that Mr. Horowitz feels that writers are being "stifled into self-censorship".

The solution to that has been in use for some time.
Employ Sean Bean.
Brits are now everyone's favourite baddies because we don't get upset about it like the rest of the pansies on the planet!

I read an article a while back which pointed out that many American-made films portray English people as "the baddies".

I find this fact (if it is true) quite disturbing.

This is true. But Asians and Hispanics are also often cast in the "bad guy" rôles. Black people rarely are, from what I can see.

Make of it what you will.

Default USA, anti-British element, anti-English element

Well, what I make of it, NoMoreEUSSR, is that there appears to be an anti-British and/or anti-English element in the USA (and I don't mean Irish republicans).

It's actually because deep down they have a bit of an inferiority complex going with regards to Britain. True, that.

Although quite why anyone would stand next to Jade Goody and not think themselves worthy is beyond me...

Most people wouldn't think that she was of the same species and would simply regard her with curiosity.

Most of them prefer the BB habitat - they breed well there.

It always amuses me that in American sitcoms, the characters all mix on an interacial basis at home! I haven't met an American family that plays house to a mixed bag of Chinese, Hispanic, Black, Mexican, Italian, Jewish, Catholic people all at once! But NBC/ABC/CBS/PBS all seem to think they do!

Except of course Archie Bunker!
