So capturing carbon dioxide in itself doesn't produce energy, but using it to displace oil does.
Interesting.
I wonder what will happen when great big bubbles of CO2 escape from the sea bed and create voids big enough to sink a ferry, a la Bermuda Triangle?

Carbon dioxide, not carbon.

The point was to produce hydrogen to produce energy.
Displacing the oil would require energy.
Somewhat academic now, anyway.

I know that, it was someone else who inferred that it would be possible to recover the carbon and use it for energy.
What process would be needed to remove the carbon from CO2 and liberate the oxygen? Apart from turning it into trees? If they can do it, surely we could?

We could but it needs energy to do it. Some sort of artificial photosynthesis perhaps - but the scale of the process needed to make any significant difference would be vast - probably better to leave it to nature (?).
