But there is a distinction. Reading a newspaper is passive. You take information in. Posting in a poll is giving information out. |

It's down to the company to lock down their systems if you give people the access then they will (ab)use it.
I've worked in companies where the IT depts were the worst for abuse of systems - who will watch the watchers.

I believe that Police Officers should be politically neutral, I moan when they inflict political statements on the public. So I can't complain about this as I would be a hypocrit.
Let the Officers/staff sign it in their own time and let them have political opinions outside of work, but not when they are at work. |

If I was running a business I wouldn't have open access to the internet, for every employee.
Maybe have a few stations in the canteen area for lunchtime or something, but the amount of abuse that goes on is huge. The temptation and ease of access is just too much for most people.

The way I see it is this. If someone is paid to do a job, then as long as they get that job done and done well, I have no particular problem if they play around on the internet from time to time. In fact, I'd rather they did that than spend time gossiping with their friends and wasting the time of several employees. |
