Default Are Catholics being forced out of public life?

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor seems to think so
Quote:
."Here the Catholic Church and its adoption services are wishing to act according to its principles and conscience and the government is saying: 'No, we won't allow you to ... you have no space, you have no place in the public life of this country.'

"Now that seems to me to be just one step and there will be further ones."
Blair said he had found a "sensible compromise", allowing faith-based agencies 21 months to adapt to the new rules - monitored by independent assessors. What is the compromise?

Either the Catholic Church capitulates and says its social teaching is all wrong, or these "independent assessors" make the Church come to heel. What is the compromise? Blair's such a difficult person to comprehend!

But it is not just the Roman Catholics! Traditionalist Christians from other denominations are being chastised by the liberal elite, and so are Muslims, Jews and other religious people.

Most of us who have belief are quite prepared to allow others their freedoms. But I get the distinct view that we are being insiduously denigrated as being "hateful, discriminatory, bigotted, etc, etc....."

Oh dear!

There is no compromise in the Blair governements proposals which simply do not understand how strong faith can be.

I could never arrange an adoption for a gay couple nor could I attend a gay civil partnership ceromony ( gay marriage by another name)

Everything in my being tells me that God believes that homosexuality is a sinful act. I understand many will take a diffrent view and htye should have a safe enviroment to express such a view however so should those who hold to the primacy of the Bible as the guiding principle in their lives

Sadly this appears to no longer be the case.

Default Christians will get nothing from Labour

I have always said that Roman Catholic people should not vote Labour.

Labour have never done anything for RC people - or for Christians in general.

That's very true. There was a trade unionist woman at the Labour Party conference going on about "rights". The left now seem to be a gaggle of secularists, atheists, libertines, freeloaders, and luddites.

David Alton left the Liberal Party over abortion and many Labour supporters are uneasy with the apparent drift away from a Socialist/Methodist/Catholic ethos.

On a lighter note, I remember during one of those abortion debates of the seventies, Cyril Smith, who came from a single parent family and about 27 stone, turning on the interviewer saying "Now! Where would I be if my mother had aborted me at birth?"

Two thoughts came rushing into my mind at the time! That of where he could be now and was it possible to abort after birth?

An excellent posting from Arden. 8)

I remember David (now Lord) Alton leaving the Liberals. The only good decision anyone makes as a Liberal 'Democrats' is to quit the party.

The left (including the Liberal Dims) are exactly as Arden describes so well - "a gaggle of secularists, atheists, libertines, freeloaders, and luddites."

Churchgoers of any faith over here should not vote for the broad left in any of its many guises - Labour, Marxist, Liberal Dim, Scottish/Welsh Nationalist or 'Green'.

Being a Christian doesn't necessitate membership or even affiliation to a church.

Exactly. But he never fooled me. He couldn't care less about Christianity. Christianity means actions as well as words. I can't think of any Christian acts 'Tony' B-liar has carried out.

The PC ethos now has widespread control over our lives with nonsense replacing commion sense and fairness , with imndividuals afraid to speak out as no dissent is allowed. With all 3 party leaders endorsing rights of children to father and mother and to know who they are , replaced with absolute rights of anyone to have a child accessory, regardless of social stability , and mental health of child , the evil lunatics have taken over the asylum. Notably public internet comments on national newspaper websites are fllodded with outrage. Yet no party represents them.

Time for UKIP to high profile outspokenly speak up for rational common sense and relish the hysterical wrath of the PC establishment that will follow and be ready to act on the public support it gets.

I believe Blair has posed as a Christian but that his religious views are all mixed up. For example, I once heard him say on a TV documentary that he reads the Qur'an frequently.

He has never fooled me and his track record speaks for itself - the failed law against "Incitement to Religious Hatred" being just one of his attempts to stifle religious freedom and freedom of speech, in the name of "tolerance".
