Yeah it was. Christians wanted special treatement for their religion, like some of the special treatments handed out for other religions.

Because that precident was set in other areas, they had a case and BT buckled to the pressure.

Personally, I don't like special treatments for any religions. If a law is good enough for one set of people, it should apply to all in my book.

disagree. The issue is whether or not an overt display of faith could be made. Other religions were permitted to wear garments required by their faith thus publicly displaying their religion.

The fact that the cross was jewellery just compounded the difficulty, in one sense BA were right in that a cross broke the dress code, as it was jewellery, in another sense they were wrong as it removed the mechanism whereby a Christian can overtly show their faith. Therefore the ban on jewellery crucifixes became discriminatory, albeit indirectly so, since by the actions of the jewellery ban a religeous group were therefore treated in a different fashion to another - which is discrimination.

I'm glad BA have relaxed their ban on cross like representations - have you seen the silhouette of an aircraft from above?

Default Pro-EU British Airways

Nigel Farage MEP, the UKIP leader, said in a television interview when this row over British Airways (BA) and its attitude to the visibility of the Crucifix erupted that BA is a europhile airline which has backed usage of the euro and, of course, which, famously, took the UK flag off the tail of its aircraft (something to which Lady Thatcher protested by covering up - on a model of a BA jet - one of the strange designs which replaced the British flag).

My advice is to use Ryanair (whose boss has criticised the EU on a number of occasions) whenever possible instead of BA and to only use BA when one has to in view of what they did over the Crucifix and in view of their europhilia.

I see your point. I meant that, for BA, it was a ban on ALL necklaces. Nadia Eweida made it into an issue about displaying a cross. The media publicised it and, as usual, put their spin on it.

As it happens, we have just received a pile of documentation on site procedures and site safety in from BA via their facilities management team. I haven't read it yet - it is sitting my PA's desk waiting to be copied and circulated to all who have, or may have, reason to visit a BA site.
