And I very much doubt the school wants an extra way for anyone to sue them the instant she gets her necklace caught on something.

I remember full well in my middle school that nobody was allowed to wear necklaces for one reason or another.

My high school; Nobody gave a damn.

Personally, I agree she shouldn't wear it if it's a health and safety risk. Let her call religious intolerance all she wants.

Although I do hope the school in question request the removal of other necklaces and such jewellery; religious or not.

If the school (which has the first duty to make sure it's students are safe) makes has one rule for everyone, then fine.

Does the school ban head scarves?

If not then there is blatant double standards involvedm, as they are just as likey, if not more so, to get caught up in something.

I heard Anne Widdicombe on BBC News24 saying that the school had allowed the girl to wear a cross in the lapel of her jacket, and that the girl should accept this compromise. I agree with that.

I think that this issue is getting a bit out of hand. As a Christian myself, I would suggest that she forgets her militancy, because the whole country now knows what she believes.

Christians are to be judged by what comes from their lips and their hearts not what they wear, eat or carry about with them!

How can a small Gold? chain be a health and safety issue. it would break very easily if caught. Dog collars ops: and very heavy chain I agree.

Perhaps H+S is used as shorthand for the old debate on school uniform, to make sure poorer kids do not stand out.

I also agree that the small badge is a good compromise. does that mean some of our younger members will beallowed to wear their ukip badges as a sign of faith.

simple solution - if it's a H&S risk it will be because it has been identified as such, during a risk assessment. Ask school to produce risk assessment - give them- oh - 1 hour max to do so, because by law they must have it and it must be on record.

The risk assessment should clearly indicate the risks requiring necklaces not to be worn as part of the identified actions put in place as a result of the risk assessment.

This goes for ANY occasion of 'it's for H&S reasons'

i dunno, how much influence does UKIP have compared to ... i dunno, the green party?

anyway, i think we should and start a campaign against it.

a club was recently formed at my school, Westfield CTC and it's called the limelights. we get extra stuff like non-uniform days etc and we will wear a badge. i sopose they wouldn't notice a UKIP one. where do i get them from?

Then you would get into the muddy waters of defining which type of necklace would be acceptable. How big, thick, heavy, long, strong etc.
