I don't select my music based on the political views of the musician, that's not how it works, unless he is deliberately using the medium to get his message across (and provided it's done openly I can respect it even whilst not agreeing).
Are you going to investigate the political opinions of all bands from all of your cds? Authors of all your books? Political stances of all companies of every product you own? It could end up being quite expensive. |

Gallagher abuses his position.
As a folkie I have a lot of music by left-wing singers (even a Billy Bragg album that I won at a folk club), but a lot of them don't insult young servicemen who are not allowed to comment in reply. I suppose as an ex-serviceman myself I do react badly to such ignorant attacks. Even the Dubliners, who at least make no pretence of their Irish Republican sympathies, are more adult about such things. |

I think maybe you have over-reacted. It's probably a little too close to home.
I have a couple of his albums and like his music, though it worked better at the time (c. 95-99) and isn't something I reach for regularly. The thing is everyone knows he is a gobshite, he's made it his trademark. I find him quite embarrassing really, but as I say, that isn't want music is all about really. For the sake of debate, I actually get roughly what he's saying. I'm sure he could have said it better, nor is it as black and white as he makes out, but I don't think he is actually insulting servicemen. Oh, and burn that Bragg CD  |

I think he may be right with a small percentage of troops, but as always he makes the mistake of lumping everyone into the same bracket.
There are many reasons why people join the forces. My brother joined because it was the best opportunity to work on interesting aircraft and he wanted to do his bit for the nation. He is pretty much a pacifist other than that, so will always be best suited fixing things, rather than fighting. Other people feel like they have no other job to go to. Others do it for the fellowship that these units create. So he is an **** for painting the whole lot of them with the same brush. Effectively he is suggesting we shouldn't even have armed forces, which makes him a moron in my book.
