You must be. It ****** me off big time still. I question why I play by the rules, get fleeced like hell, then watch as human scum get rewarded with my money.

Some comments from Have Your Say to make you feel better.

Quote:
Firstly - the Prison service doesn't have money to pay compensation. That comes out of mine and every other tax-payers pocket.

Second - what planet are these people on? Taking drugs is a criminal offense. So supplying drugs to criminals is also an offense. What next? Will habitual rapists sue for being deprived of their prey?

Someone really needs a reality-check here, not least of all any legal "professional" who accepts any cases like this.

Does that mean victims can now start suing criminals for the abuse of their human rights?

The human rights act should be dropped in its current form, as pretty much evrything and anything can be deemed as against human someones human rights.
Human rights should be basic, and only ensure good food, adequate comfortable accomidation, and no violence or torture and a right to a fair trial and legal help... nothing more

If a court upholds this case it will be an absolute disgrace and an injustice to all law abiding citizens. I think the prison service should make all addicts go cold turkey, maybe then they wouldn`t reoffend for drug money when they were released contiuing in their downward spiral, degrading everyone else`s lives. I certainly don`t want my taxes being handed out to drug addicts and criminals in this way!

Lets think, you give a junky £10,000 compensation from our taxes, what do you think they will spend it on?

They gave up their rights when they broke the law.
The prisons have a duty of care, What were they suposed to do, give them drugs?
This country gets madder by the day....

So Human Rights strikes again!
I think I'll claim my Human Right that paying taxes is seriously affecting my right to a happy family life. Any solicitors out there prepared to represent ME on a no-win no-fee basis?

Prison should be an absolute hell hole - to actually deter people from reoffending. Bread, water and a bucket should be all prisoners get - not games rooms, varied catering, gyms, TV and certainly not drugs. This nation needs to stop pandering to the "rights" of criminals and realise that the most important part of rehabilitation and changing behaviour is punsihment!

If someone jumps off a building you don't blame the ground for hurting them. Prison is a consequence of their own actions. Cold turkey, while being unpleasant, is a further consequence of that. And in the end it will probably do them some good.

From the article:
"The claimants were bringing the action based on trespass, because they say they did not consent to the treatment, and for alleged clinical negligence."

Excuse me but I suspect that none of the people they mugged, robbed etc. consented to the treatment they got.

I hope the cold turkey method was particularly awful for them. I hope they got the cold shakes, the paranoia, the panic attacks, the sickness etc. Perhaps then they will realise that both drugs and crime do not pay!

I blame the solicitors! This sort of legal aid work and percentage win fee is easy pickings for the multitude of solicitors who prey on this country.

No, I think the money would be better spent building more prisons...

Until someone takes the Government to court for breaching the human rights of the law abiding public (by pandering to criminals and the PC brigade), these crazy cases will only carry on.

I think all drug addict prisoners should be forced to go through cold turkey. It is not the duty of the prison service to provide them with drugs and it might act as an additional deterrant.

Stuart Paterson, Dunstable, United Kingdom

The Lib Dems will say they deserve double for not being able to vote too.

Maybe we should swap their heroin for a lethal injection?
