Default Chippy smells of chips complaint

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...re/6126476.stm

Quote:
A West Yorkshire chip shop owner is being investigated after a complaint that his shop smells of fish and chips.
Owner of New Scarborough Fisheries in Wakefield, Steve Morton, was asked to check the odour extraction system was working properly after the complaint.

A spokeswoman for Wakefield Council said the authority was obliged to investigate the matter.
They will have to ban food preparation, so the people are no longer offended.

It probably gives you cancer too.

Will somebody think of the children!

Unbelievable , so smells can now cause trouble. A new way for the PC brigade to close businesses e.g all farms , many food manufacturers ( e.g the food fascists claim chocolate is bad for you therefore very easy to close Cadbury, Fry, Nestle etc) , all petrol stations , the list is endless.

To put the other side, I think there has been some bad journalism here and you've fallen for it. The last quote in the article gives it away:

Quote:
A council spokeswoman explained however: "It is certainly not the case that a fish and chip shop should not be allowed to smell of fish and chips."
But you all decided to ignore that - very naughty of you. It is undoubtedly the level of the smell that must be investigated. All businesses must make efforts to limit the effect they have on the environment around them. This is probably a neighbour who believes the smell has become too bad. The council is "obliged to investigate the matter". It doesn't mean they are going to agree and if they do, it may be that a filter needs replacing; nothing more.

Come on chaps, don't fall for the spin.

They still wasted time and money investigating it though didn't they.

I think it's pathetic.

It depends. If you lived next door to a chippy and its system broke down and your house started filling up with chippy smells, you might not find it so ridiculous. You've made the assumption that it is some busy-body vegetarian chip hate-ist stirring up trouble and I'm actually sure you're right, the way things are today. Still, I can see the sense in it all.

Doesn't say anything about making other peoples home smell there.

Sounds like you are making the assumptions to me.

Yes, I am trying to read between the lines of a report that is possibly written by a BBC journalist who has put spin on something to make it sound scandalous or at least news-worthy. Something you and I do all the time. Why are you taking the whole report at literal face value except the last quote?

It was a toss up between putting 'vegetarian' or 'John Carter type'.
