I have done all I can legally to fight them. My MP doesn't care. My councillor doesn't care.

Over 90% of people break this law as they don't believe in it.

I think it's because they believe that can get away with it, and for the most part, they do.

Besoeker,

No speeding =no fine.

Speeding in foreign registered vehicle = no fine.

So its not about safety, but limit of oportunity to collect revenue.

Nearly everyone breaks the speed limit by a small margin (I would guess 99% is more like it than 90%) - mainly because 30mph on a clear, quiet, wide road is bloody stupid, and you know you would be creating a nuisance for everyone else if driving at 29 mph.

If these limits were 100% enforced how nonsensical they are would be made plain as we all crawl around in 3rd gear.

Fixed speed limits have to take account of worst case conditions. It might be safe to exceed the limits at 03:00 on a Sunday. But it is still illegal.
