Hi Everybody,
Just a thought..... we can't discriminate against gay people, but has anyone on this forum actually used the word "firewomen" ?

"Baby, I'll quench your fire."

"That is, after I come home from the gay parade!"

Some top rated comments from Have Your Say. As is the usual trend, the British people seem to be bang on the money.

Why have these firefighters been discriminated against, especially those who refused to support a gay event on religious grounds? They are entitled to their views and no one seems to be upholding their rights under the Religious Beliefs Act. I am sure all nine would rescue anyone irrespective of who that person was and their lifestyle, but to take part in Pride does not and should not be seen as a routine duty for anyone. By the way, my best friend who is gay also agrees with me!

Yes he is. Firemen should not be used by liberal Social Engineers.

If gay Firemen & women want hand oput leaflets at a gay pride march, thats fine.

These brave men joined the Fire Service to fight fires, cut people out of car wrecks, attend terrorist incidents & get cats out of trees.

They did not sign up to promote gay issues.

I would imagine that when someone joins the Fire Brigade they would expect their duties to include saving people from burning buildings and rescuing cats stuck up trees, not handing out leaflets on a gay-pride march. So, if I were a fireman, I’d be not very happy either. And as for ‘diversity training’, well, that just beggars belief.

Fireman receives £5,000 pay cut for refusing to hand-out leaflets... you couldnt' make this up! And there was me thinking their job was to put fires out!!

It is the Archbrishop's 'right' to comment on this issue as it was surely the 'right' of the fireman to refuse this particular duty. If Gay-rights exist to allow men/women to act and live as they want to without censure. Surely straight people deserve equal protection to be able to act according to their conscience.

I thought a firemans job was to put out fires and promote fire safety.
They do enough charity work as it is. This kind of thing should be voluntary and if they don't agree with the leaflets, then they shouldn't be forced into handing them out, whatever the subject.

I think the fireman who had his pay cut should take the fire service to court. This is an outrage!

This is quite simply, another example of the ridiculous state our country, has allowed itself to get into.

The worrying thing is that everyday it is getting worse.

Soon even the politically correct do-gooders will find it unbearable!

I support the fireman, they may even have a case to sue their force for discrimination against them.

the PC zealots are manipulating our daily lives -
as has been said you now have to accept and embrace gays or there is something wrong with you, you are a menace.

well there must be something wrong with me then -I am a menace.
I do not want the fire brigade on this gay pride picnic.
why I am I not now any longer free to hold this view in public ?

when are they going to cut my wages too ?

I find this very interesting. It seems we have a Bizarro world mirror image here.

You blokes seem tough on Gays, where we are more accepting. But we are seemingly harder nosed about the issue of terrorists amongst us.

Interesting.

Assuming that the fireservice has it's own population of gays, then surely these firepeople could have leafleted the march?

In the kind of climate I sense exists from all of the posts I've read in this thread I doubt any firemen would dare come out of the closet there.
