Default Will George be slayed as England's patron saint?

Will George be slayed as England's patron saint?
By STEVE DOUGHTY, Daily Mail 19:23pm 2nd July 2006.

His dragon-slaying heroics have kept his legend alive through the centuries.
But the Church of England is considering rejecting England's patron saint St George on the grounds that his image is too warlike and may offend Muslims.

The CoE can do what it likes. I doubt anyone's going to take notice of them.

The Church of England may reject it - that does not mean anyone else need do so.

Boycotting the C of E is my recommendation.

Appeasment of Fascists

Quote:
The image of St George was used to foster patriotism in 1940, when King George VI inaugurated the George Cross for civilian acts of the greatest bravery. The medal bears a depiction of the saint slaying the dragon.

However, George has become unfashionable among politicians and bureaucrats. His saint's day, April 23, has no official celebration in England, and councils have banned the St George flag from their buildings and vehicles during the World Cup.

The saint became an English hero during the crusades against the Muslim armies that captured Jerusalem in the 11th century.

An apparition of George is said to have appeared to the crusader army at the Battle of Antioch in 1098.

The flag of St George is also the rank flag of an Admiral in the Royal Navy, and civilian craft are forbidden to fly it. However, ships which took part in the rescue operation at Dunkirk during World War II are allowed to fly it as a jack.

The Dunkirk Window in the Lady Chapel. You'll find in the lower parts of the window beautifully coloured pictures of the Dunkirk beaches and Ramsgate Harbour with the little ships plying to and fro on their rescue mission.

Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Jonathan Sacks writeing in The Times.

Quote:
The French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard once defined postmodernism as “the death of metanarrative”, meaning that we don’t have, or don’t need, the big stories any more — the ones that tell us who we are, where we came from, and what we are called on to do. I think he was wrong. Without memory there is no identity, and without identity we are cast adrift into a sea of chance, without compass, map or destination.

Logically the next demand from the C of E is that the Union Flag is invalid since it would continue to include the Cross of St George and needs to be replaced.
More reasons for the further decline of the established Church.
