Default Golden BB Ticket

Quote:
Suzie's appearance on Big Brother comes after a competition to find a member of the public to join the contestants.

A total of 100 tickets were hidden in Kit Kat bars and distributed around the UK.

Of those tickets, 58 were found before last Friday's deadline, but two people decided not to put themselves forward for the show, two dropped out, and 19 did not pass the required background checks.
The mind boggles.

I find it amazing how much people want to appear on TV, Kit Kat buyers are a fairly normal cross section of the public yet 54 of the 58 who found tickets were willing to get their 15 minutes of fame by appearing on Big Brother.

Remember though that this promotion has distorted the market, as Kit Kat sales doubled. Presumably therefore thouse buying extra Kit Kats were those wanting to get on the show, so straight away at least half of purchasers were buying them mainly or solely to try to get on the show. Thus, on average, 50% of the tickets would have been in Kit Kats bought for the purpose of getting on the show. The other 50% would have been in Kit Kats that would normally have been sold. It is not necessarily the case that only 58 tickets were found; some people will have just thrown them away, or not bothered to check. So the percentage of "ordinary" people (ie. those not doing it specifically to get hold of a ticket) is probably lower than it appears.

Default Kit-Kat now in contintental-style wrapping

I try not to buy Kit-Kats - not since they put them in those strange plastic-type wrappers. For decades - probably since Kit-Kat was invented - they have wrapped them in silver paper and then a normal paper wrapper on top. Now all that's gone - has the company that makes them been taken over by continentals or something  :? ?

Rowntrees who invented Kit Kat were bought up by the Swiss firm Nestle some 40 years ago. They still have big factories in the UK mainly in York but management is primarily based in Switzerland.
The one redeeming factor is that in Cadbury we still have a UK company and not only that it is the BIGGEST confectionery manufacturer in the WORLD, it overtook Mars ( an american company) last year. However I have to add that today the biggest part of Cadbury is the chewing gum division.
Also Cadbury is a dynamic company one of the first UK companies to build a factory in China some 15 years ago, India 60 years ago , Russia 15 years ago and has factories in many African, South American and European countries.
I helped build its factories in Malaysia and Indonesia 30 years ago

Default Bournville

Thanks for your reply to my query, Mark (above).

Wasn't aware that Mars was American-owned. I know that HP is now an American company though.

What's this I hear about Cadbury making Bournville (the dark chocolate in the reddish wrapper) in France   :?:

I won't stop buying Nestle products as Nestle is Swiss and Switzerland is (to the credit of the Swiss people) not in the EU .

I've always admired the Swiss 8) .

I think kit kat changed their wrapping because it was being used by drug addicts to chase the dragon.
