If the legal system was such that it prevented crime then there would be no need to go around in fear of being a victim of crime. This story would suggest that it is now a crime to protect oneself from potential crime. But if you don't protect yourself who will do it?
Politicians, judges, lawyers, barristers and the police will tell you that "the law" will protect you. Tell that to the murder victim ... if you can. A life gone forever whilst the taker of that life is set free to continue their lives. I can understand the fears of the teenager. He lives in an area, it appears, where carrying knives, bullying and truancy are common-place. In an area in which there is no protection from the law. For anyone to want to protect themselves from that environment is natural survival. The police would do well to make an example of the people carrying knives and bullying and playing truant than to pick on someone who fears for their life because of it. |

Here is the correct url
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4788930.stm How can the police tell someone not to wear this ? If he was covering his face to avoid ccctv I could understand it (like Muslim women cover their face).
