Now complaints, said to come from newcomers have persuaded the local borough council to take down two newly erected signs.

It reminds me of Diane Abbott MP calling for a ban on 'Darkie day'.

Why is the MP for Hackney concerned about what happens in Padstow!?

Hmmm, I'm afraid in this case I'm not so sure it is either 'bloody unbelievable' or unwanted. Why do you want the name 'Hitler Walk' to stay? Is it just because to change it would be to bow to political correctness? Deliberately not doing something just because it is PC is surely a form of political correctness in itself.

You don't understand the local history behind it. Which is exactly why the 'newcomers' should get off their high horses.

I know I'd be mightily peeved if someone started calling for big changes to my local village because they didn't understand the uniqueness or quirkiness behind certain aspects of it.

Quaint little villages, little quirks and local history/legends make England (and incidentally, the rest of the UK) a very interesting Country.

Ah, newcomers. Last year a newcomer in the village I live in brought a house near the church. Strange thing the church has bells and these even chime with the hour and half hour. She put a letter through everyones letterbox complaining about the noise pollution, infringement of freedom to quiteness and asking people to support her to stop the bells etc. She was very surprised to get so many replys telling her to politely sod off. She soon sold up. I will give her her due in that she would speak to people and she was amazed at the responce that people were not bothered with the bells.

Anyway, it might have been a different hitler that the walk is named after.

Or - delicious irony - they could rename it Blair walk.

Actually, it's not. Although it was named it before the war.

the icon to the left is an 'emoticon'. These are used to indicate to readers a particular emotion you wish to imply when reading the post.

this emoticon means 'humour'.

I presume, therefore, that you consider your earlier post to be humorous then?

Of course, by putting an emoticon, that leaves no room at all for your post to be misconstrued as a factually incorrect post. Of course, an emoticon also makes this ok. So by all rights, I could call you a 'w**ker ', and it's ok because it's of humour, right?

By the way, the fact I put a '' means I was being sarcastic, in case that escaped your attention.
