Today I read the following letter in the Metro and, although I don't agree, it was mildly interesting to see the immigrants view, so I thought I would quickly type it out here:
I have lived in this country for a few years and it never ceases to amaze me how obsessed the British are with calling each other racist at every opportunity. Take, for example, the furore over whether the public is 'racist' in its voting on Big Brother (Metro, Fri). I find this issue particularly saddening because the root cause of inequality here is not race but economics. In Britain you have a more disgusting gap between rich and poor than in any other country I have ever visited and it is almost impossible to survive here unless your life revolves around making money. It is obvious that middle-class liberals rule this place and that, by deflecting attention from class to race, they have craftily avoided any meaningful social changes. The bourgeois liberal attitude seems to be that the white working classes are a bunch of fascists and, while it is true that support for the BNP is on the rise, this is beacuse the working classes have had socialism and the Labour Party taken from them. Money-obsessed conservatism and its twin brother, self-righteous liberalism, are not good enough for the poor - of all races - passionate people with much to be rightly resentful about. As long as socialism is kept down and political correctness upheld, as long as the British poor are ignored and dismissed, they will remain resentful, confused and, yes, sometimes - racist. What do you have to say to that? Uri Kaminsky, London SW9 |

I don't believe in taxing successful people and giving the spoils to the poor.
As a Conservative, I believe in helping ALL people in Britain to succeed. I believe in a meritocracy, where people should succeed according to their ability. I also believe, that the Government should be doing more to help people who are working, especially people who struggle to afford even the most basic commodities in life. It is my firm belief that people who work for a living instead of just living on state handouts (This does not include people who are unable to work) deserve help from the Government. Whether this comes from tax cuts, or raising tax thresholds to help those worst off.

Some fair points mixed in with utter drivel, which ruin the overall argument.
Call me suspicious, but I also doubt the writers credentials. I smell more than a hint of troll about his writings.

In one, I suspect! A curates egg of a letter - but oddly egged arguments can sometimes break the mindset. I will muse about this on my way to work today. with thanks, |

There is a huge opportunity here for UKIP. If we could get say a quarter or more of the votes of the current vote abstainers we would be well on our way to our first MPs. |

I agree with PHAT BOY PHAT, And as regards working for a living, when you live in an area That only survives on EUROPEAN handouts, and is given to their supporters, This is a way of getting rid of people who do not agree with their policies, and guarantees support for that party, bought with our own taxes, YOU EITHER WORK FOR THE EU, OR THEY MAKE SURE YOU DONT WORK AT ALL
