Calling a police horse gay almost cost my job

Quote:
An Ulster student last night spoke of his relief at hearing he will not be prosecuted for calling a mounted policeman's horse "gay".
Sam Brown (21), a former student at Oxford University, was arrested for making homophobic remarks during a night out to celebrate the end of his finals last May.
Yesterday, the Crown Prosecution Service announced it would not proceed with the case.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph last night, Mr Brown said: "I am relieved the case has been dropped now, it nearly cost me my job.
"Dropping it seems like the obvious thing to do as it was a waste of time. It has all been slightly irritating as it has been going on for so long but I'm putting it behind me now."
The charge came about when Mr Brown approached the officer during the night out in Oxford and said: "Excuse me, do you realise your horse is gay?"
Moments later, two Thames Valley Police squad cars appeared and Mr Brown was arrested under the Public Order Act for making homophobic remarks.
The English Literature graduate, then at Oxford's Balliol College, spent the night in the cells. He refused to pay an £80 fine, so police took the case to court.
"I thought it was hilarious," he said.
"I had finished my finals, I had no responsibilities in the world and then this happened - it's something I will be able to dine out on for a long time.
"When I first told my mum, she told me I was an idiot but then she rang me later and said she saw the funny side of it, which was good."
At Oxford Magistrate's Court yesterday, it emerged the CPS had decided to discontinue the case as there was not enough evidence to prove Mr Brown was disorderly.

A truly ridiculous story. All officers involved should have been hauled in for retraining. How is stating a horse is gay in anyway homphobic anyway?
