Default How to stop a discussion ...

... mention political correctness and giving offence to one or more people.

I'm a civil servant ( ops: well, I've got to earn a living!!) and I was reading through a discussion thread on the office intranet. It was really rather interesting, and a lot of very interesting points were raised about our basic freedoms, inalienable rights or whatever you care to call them. The discussion was primarily about making the government building in which we work a smoke-free establishment in line with policy (we had a smoking room).

Anyway, the discussion was galloping along quite nicely until someone brought up the subject of political correctness, and people might take offence at some of the comments.

Since then no one has posted a thing on that thread, or any other.

So much for one of the most basic of rights in a democracy ... freedom of speech.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Civil Servant eh! Don't you guys actually run the country! 8)

PC is destroying freedom of speech and that is nothing but bad for society. Sadly, there are a huge amount of people brainwashed INTO phpbb_thinking PC, but I am happy to see more and more seem to be waking up to it's effects.

And of course freedom from political correctness is one of UKIP's 5 freedoms.

Political Correctness has made people afraid to have reasoned, adult debates in public. People have become quick to label people with a PC insult if their views in any way differ from the ones we aere told are politically acceptable. It's stifling free speach and makes cowards of us all.

No one wants to risk having an unpopular view anymore and thats how the government continues to get away with what it does.
