Outrage at re-naming of St Andrew's Nursery

Council bosses say 150-year-old St Andrew’s Junior and Infants is now being used by a nursery and kids’ centre and needs a new name to reflect it.

But critics fear the change is linked to the fact 62 per cent of people in Bordesley, Birmingham, are from ethnic backgrounds.

Birmingham Labour MP Khalid Mahmood said: “This doesn’t help the Muslim community at all.”

And Tory MP for nearby Sutton Coldfield, Andrew Mitchell, said: “I’ve a nasty feeling there’s an element of political correctness in all this.”

The school is next to Birmingham City FC’s ground, also known as St Andrew’s since 1906.

Parents have launched a petition to block the name change.

But a council spokesman insisted: “The change is nothing to do with religion.”

Yep. I have trouble with this guy. He seems to make sense. So why's he in the Labour Party?
