Default Jerry Springer film banned from supermarkets

http://www.mistymedia.co.uk/blog/200...erry_springer/

Quote:
A small number of Christians have managed to get two supermarket chains in the UK (Sainsbury's and Woolworths) to take the controversial Jerry Springer: The Opera of the shelves. Christian groups have been complaining for a while now, to anyone who'll listen, because the show apparently mocks their beliefs.

This particular incident isn't a big deal, but it sets a bad precedent. We really don't want opinionated minorities telling us what we're allowed to buy in the shops.

I'm going to have to get a copy of this. I wasn't particularly interested in seeing it, but if it can generate this much ire then there must be something to it.
Just goes to show you. Not only the dreaded Mooooooslims like getting things banned.

As a Christian I launched an effective protest when this program was broadcast, I did not watch it! I am not sure I like to be refered to as an ' opinionated minority' though as we are still supposed to be a Christian country with the Queen head if the church etc.

The fact that I don't sell Ferraris doesn't mean they're banned. It just means I don't sell them.

My only objection to the whole episode is that I had to pay for it to be screened on Beeb 2 (via the licence fee). If folks want to go buy it from whichever shop wants to stock it and I aren't involved in any way, that's fine by me.

JC's attitude is the one I'm in tune with.

You either believe in freedom of speech or you don't.

i watched it loved it ,

i saw recently on media media watch a complaint from someone who felt so discusted by it they had to watch it in parts

my question why watch it at all

if you think you will be offended by something then dont tune INTO phpbb_that channel at that time ive only ever been offended by a program once i just didnt watch TV at that time there is no way i woul have wanted it banned just because of my sensibilties

if you want an example of someone trying to impose a nanny state then this is one i would use, im an adult and shoudl be able to watch (or not watch) as the case may be anything i choose

and yes if another religion had been at the centre of a gerry springer opera i would probably have watched that

No doubt because you hate the whole concept of Religion and Christianity.

While I found it distasteful to say the least, I don't think it should be withdrawn from sale.

I mean, if people want to be sad enough to watch some drivel over and over, why should we stop them?

you missed the part about in your opinion , never mind

my own opinion is that nobody is forcing people to buy this DVD seemingly stephen green has been very quite on this subject someone did suggest on the media media watch site that he perhaps realised that if he kicked up to much of a fuss sales of the DVD might actually increase from the many shops still selling the DVD
