JC I suspect you have never been in the Red Cross front line? Having seen them in mozambique first hand they will always have my admiration.
I couldn't give a monkey's cuss about shops and certainly I am happy not to see the tat of christmas decorations, not for pc reasons, but just for the empty hypocrissy of it all. Just think of all the shop workers having xmas carol musac looped to them since november, if that doesnt explain so many addled brains, I would like to hear a better explanation. I, like everyone else, am heart sick of pea brained PC people who seem to be a strata of society these days, not just one or two isolated people. It is they who "swing" at election time, and who constitute the ground between succes and failure for the lab/tory (no choice) parties. Whilst they are the "target" to win over in broad terms, in the current state of mind they are the enemy. |

The "Red Cross" is actually an inverse of the Swiss flag I believe and has no religious implication ( unlike the Red Cresent ). It operates neutrally not in a religious context.
However The British Red Cross springs from a context ( like its shops ) where Christianity is the indigenous religion and most shop workers ( statistically ) are Christian . In civilised countries the idea that the indigenous population would not be allowed to display their indigenous religion at work at the time of a major religious festival would be met with disbelief. A statement by the Red Cross made it clear in writing that they decided to ban any display of Christianity by their staff for fear of being considered " legitimate targets for attack" and this move by RC was "supported by the Red Crescent". So terrorists and religious bigots do not even have to twitch an eyelid to make an impact. Has Britain gone mad ? |

None of the councillors in Waveney in Suffolk who wanted to ban Christmas lights in the town were from ethnic groups. They were all white!
Of course none of them suggested banning Christmas leave for themselves or their relatives. |

In reply to Oliver's question - obviously Red Cross means Islamic terrorist. It is effectively saying that if an Al Qeda group in say Afghanistan find out that a charity worker in Lechlade village Red Cross charity shop is displaying a nativity scene , then it is likely to work up the Al Qada group INTO phpbb_such a frenzy of hate they will rush out and kill the next Western infidel scum Red Cross worker they see in Kabul.
( The idea that a Sebian Orthodox Christian militant will find out about the same thing and hence bomb the local Red Cross HQ in protest is discounted ) The first is fantasy land and the second very slightly more likely. My implication re Red Crescent seems unfair. In present day it does not necessarily seem to be an Islamic movement. The Crescent was adopted by Turkey when a local "red cross" was set up many years ago and has continued to be used in middle East countries. but the RedCrescent works closely with Red Cross. There are moves to replace both cross and crescent by a square to remove any public implications. However I still find it hard to believe that Red Crescent shops in Muislim countries ban any display of muslim dress or symbolism ... one knock on the door by Islamic Jihad would soon put them right on that... As regards religious extremism, it is not Muslims that are the problem in this stupidness, it is a home grown weird pc philosopy that believes we must crush our own heritage in order to out guess the possible demands of the most extereme of the most extreme from outside our heritage. |
