Mum keeps schoolgirl at home in row over footwear

A SHAW mother has refused to send her daughter to school after she was removed from normal lessons and put in an internal exclusion class — for wearing boots.

Emma Harrington (12) has been wearing the footwear to Royton and Crompton School since a kettle full of hot water dropped on her feet, causing severe blisters.

But her mother, Susan Wakeman, of Linney Lane, says the teachers failed to take INTO phpbb_consideration the reason why Emma wore the boots, despite sending in a letter of explanation.

She said that the Year 8 pupil had to wear the boots as shoes aggravated the blisters.

An angry Mrs Wakeman, said: “Emma has been put in the internal exclusion class, which is for children who are misbehaved, for no reason whatsoever.

“I sent a letter to the school to state the reason why she was wearing the boots but it wasn’t taken INTO phpbb_consideration.

“She was put INTO phpbb_the class by a teacher who told her it wasn’t school uniform. I have tried to get INTO phpbb_contact with the school head teacher but have had no reply.”

She added: “The internal exclusion class means Emma is not allowed to have any breaks and has to have dinner before other pupils and isn’t allowed to sit with anyone while eating lunch.

“I have refused to send her to school because she isn’t getting any work in this class. The thing that worries me is that if anyone else has a similar problem and is wearing boots will they be excluded as well?”

Head teacher Mr Desmond Herlihy at the Blackshaw Lane school, said: “We do not comment on individual cases.

“Royton and Crompton School has a clear policy on uniform. We work in a supportive manner with all pupils and their families to resolve uniform issues.

doesnt that actualy contraveen human rights ie the exclusion class, i think the truth of the situation is probably not as extreem,,
