Default Poppy sellers banned from centre

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/4425384.stm

Quote:
A group of war veterans has been banned from selling remembrance poppies in part of a shopping centre - after their stall was branded a fire risk.
The Derby branch of the Burma Star Association has set up a stall in the city's Eagle Centre for several years.

But complex bosses said the group were unable to do the same thing this year for health and safety reasons.

War veterans said they were disappointed at the decision. The centre is having a £300m redevelopment.

Julie Ralphs, from the centre, said: "There is a lot of work going on in the centre at the moment and we have really had to tighten up on our health and safety.
Here is a feedback form for the offending centre, I hope that there is no holding back on opinion on behalf of those who fought for us and our freedoms to tell this centre exactly what we think of them.

Default Poppy sales ban at Derby

This is appalling. Has BBC Radio Derby (widely listened to in the area), the local commercial radio stations and the Derby Evening Telegraph been informed of this? There needs to be a boycott of the Eagle Centre organised :!: .

The managers/head offices of the leading shops in the Eagle Centre need to be told of the public's outrage at this decision of the shopping centre owners .

I'm sure the Daily Mail, Sun, Daily Express and others would be interested in hearing about this too.

The last thing the owners/management of the Eagle Centre want is friction and reduction in the number of shoppers visiting their premises in this, the busiest shopping period of the year.

I e-mailed the mail as soon as it happened. I'd shopped there the day before, and as usual there were plenty of stalls for sky, the AA and the RAC, all with shedloads of leaflets and information packs which I suspect were not fireproof.

The mail, regretfully, didn't pick it up.

My Dad won the Burma Star and five other Medals, he was wounded on two occasions, and, after 23 years service, retired as a Sergeant Major,he came out with a great amount of pride and Patriotism and a small pension of about £18 per week I think, in about 1961. I am also an ex-regular and totally dedicated,as he was,to protecting this Country and its people, that is,Britain, the UK,Old Blighty, its Islands and Protectorates, its former/Commonwealth Countries,whatever.....Of course, some argumentative troll will attack what I have said here, but thats ok,these trolls have to have a life too. The main reason I post this is to point out that the EU Enemy made a mistake when plotting to take over this Kingdom of ours,.......They underestimated the dogged tenacity of the skeptical Brit. .....They would have found it much easier to take over if they had waited until all us old farts were dead and gone.......but they werent smart enough to calculate that in......Experience,breeds winners.....

The good thing is that the covered market, physically part of the eagle centre and on one of the main walkways in from one of the car parks, has given them the space they need free.

You have good folk like this shoved around from pillar to post by a no doubt mealy-mouthed shopping centre exec. (I've met a few pillocks).

They need to remember the above - with some bloody respect.

I hope all of you in that locality never give them your custom again. Unworthy.

Thank you Jean, once again, the collection tins for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal have been stolen, security in the Town Shoplifting Center noticed nothing out of the ordinary. They are going to hold an investigation and a fully, closed mind, enquiry, next year sometime, that is, if somebody reminds them on about it. USELESS CORRUPT LABOUR ********.

You sometimes wonder though - this a comment from a reader of the Derby Evening telegraph regarding the poppy story:-

Quote:
i am fed up being told that if it wasnt for these people(whatever) wouldnt be here today. That is not a valid reason for them to do whatever they want. If the stall is a fire-hazard, then that is the end of the matter. This is 2005, not 1945, things are different now. Just live with it.
Tim, Derby
Bear in mind at no point was any reference made to "If it wasn't for....."

http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/
and search for 'poppy'
