Default ‘Middle-class, middle-aged’ magistrates set for makeover

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...861056,00.html

Quote:
THOUSANDS of younger and more ethnically diverse magistrates will be recruited as part of a drive by the Lord Chancellor to boost the standing of magistrates’ courts.
Quote:
Today’s White Paper coincides with a £4 million recruitment drive already under way on buses and trains to recruit more magistrates. Last month a 20-year old man of Asian origin, Anand Limbachia, a civil servant, was reported to have been apppointed to the North Sussex bench, Britain’s youngest magistrate.
Magistrates having some life experience doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.

More "positive" discrimination. More resentment.

Default 'Positive' discrimination

MKP writes (above) (Quote) More "positive" discrimination. More resentment. (End of Quote).

My reply: Exactly. Now, let me see, the Lord Chancellor (mentioned in the article above) is Scottish, isn't he? I wonder if he has any plans to make ethnic appointments in Scotland. Perhaps it's beyond his brief and dealt with by the Scottish Parliament Executive. In which case, he shouldn't be appointing people in England anyway, whatever their origins.
