Default Christmas lights 'too Christian for a grant'

Telegraph
Quote:
More than a dozen towns and villages could lose funding for their Christmas lights because a council deems them offensive to non-Christians.

A Conservative-controlled district council in East Anglia will consider a report later this week that states that the annual grants it hands out to 13 towns and villages do not "fit with the council's core values of equality and diversity" as Christmas is a purely Christian festival.

Waveney cistrict council, based in Lowestoft, Suffolk, has distributed £10,000 to rural communities for this year's lights.

A report by officers to be considered by the executive committee on Thursday proposes that the lights budget should be halved next year and stopped completely in 2007.

The report adds that, despite the "very good reasons" for stopping the grants, "members should be aware the decisions made about this service have the potential to be perceived by the public in a very negative way.

"It may be accused of not supporting the spirit of Christmas if the recommendations are supported."

Frank Jones, an independent councillor on the authority, said yesterday: "Our whole culture is being affected by the vague possibility that the things we do might be upsetting people from another religion."

Mark Bee, the district council leader, said that the proposal to end the Christmas lights subsidy was being made purely for "economic reasons". He described the language used in the report as "unfortunate".

• A Father Christmas has been banned from arriving on water skis this year at Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, after boat owners complained that, while they were limited to five knots, he arrived in the harbour last year doing 16 knots.

I don't think tax payers money should be used to fund this sort of thing anyway, but to stop it because it offends non-Christians, FFS.

The fact that a Conservative council is doing this, makes me think they are trying to stop the waste of money, but by appealing to the the lib-dems mentality to get backing to not spend.

Losers.

Default Politically Correct brigade out to undermine all traditions

The report above from the Telegraph says (Quote) A report by officers (End of Quote).

So, as I expected, the report was written by officers of the local authority advising Conservative Councillors. Are they not capable of thinking for themselves and binning politically correct nonsense?

Who appointed these politically-correct (PC) people who wrote this report? Possibly those running a previous Labour or Fiberal 'Democrat' regime on the council.

As we've seen in newspaper reports at this time of the year in 2004 and 2003 - there is now a low level anti-Christmas campaign under way in this country. It is NOT ran by people of non-Christian faiths. It is clearly being orchestrated by the lapsed Christians who happen to form the same pro-euro metro-elite out to strip Westminster of any real sovereign powers  :x  .

It is now time for a counter-campaign against these chip-on-shoulder axe-grinders out to destroy traditional events in our calendar - whether its The Proms, Christmas, Easter, St. George's Day or just marking things like Trafalgar Day last month.

The leading campaigner against these people out to destroy Christmas is the popular newspaper columnist Richard Littlejohn. Richard Littlejohn (a keen eurosceptic) allegedly walked out of the Sun newspaper in mid-September and is expected to start on the Daily Mail next month. Anyone with any information on anti-Christmas activity from the PC brigade should contact Mr. Littlejohn at the Daily Mail from next month.
