As a bit of a puritan I only ever use standard stamps, never the seasonal rubbish, which usually are a disaster, but colourful with it.
Not all christians get excited, carried away or involved with 25th December some steer well clear of it.

I bought a set of these stamps today. The 68p stamp isn't the only one that could cause a furore. The 1st class stamp shows a white madonna and child, the 2nd class stamp is a black madonna and child.
That will definitely get some attention!

Come to think of it, quite often you hear postmen are members of the BNP (or football hooligans). Perhaps one of them has risen to a position where they decide the stamps.

(*DISCLAMER, I am in no way saying all postmen are members of racist scum organisations. Indeed, my postman is a very decent chap!)

....but the Madonna was a first century Jewish girl living in the Roman Empire. She would of course have been light brown, with olive eyes and black hair, like the majority of people from that area. Christ was almost certainly the same colour overall since I think even Joseph would have baulked at bringing up the blonde haired, blue eyed, white boy seen in a lot of images. The implication would be that he was bringing up the illegitimate child of some Celtic or Saxon Mercenary. Christ was 30+ by the time he went on his mission so would have had to fit INTO phpbb_society until then.

If the Hindus find the stamp offensive then the solution is to buy one, lick it or spit on it, stick it on an envelope, put it in a box from whence it will be taken and an inky splodge will be stamped on the offensive image. If the envelope is addressed properly they will never see the stamp again. Problem solved.

I think the point that the 1st class Madonna is white and the 2nd class Madonna is black here. As in second class citizen. Reading INTO phpbb_too much INTO phpbb_it? Maybe, but it is an unfortunate mistake, IMHO. More so than the Hindu issue, or the Burger King one.

That ends up being a 'lose-lose' situation. If the first class stamp had a black madonna and the second class one was white then someone else would take umbrage. Presumably the Black Madonna is actually the most revered icon in Poland?

Whatever happened to the painting of 'The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies'?

It gets better:
telegraph
Quote:
Hindus call for protests over 'offensive' stamp

Hindus are being urged to attempt to clog up the postal service after the Royal Mail refused to withdraw an "offensive" Christmas stamp.

Ramesh Kallidai, the head of the Hindu Forum of Britain, has asked its members, and members of other Hindu groups, to send unstamped protest letters to Royal Mail's headquarters.

He said he hoped this would cause a "logistical nightmare worse than withdrawing the stamp". The group, Britain's largest Hindu body, is also planning a mass protest outside the headquarters.

The 68p Christmas stamp went on sale this week and would be used on cards sent to India. It features a woman with traditional Hindu markings worshipping the infant Christ. The picture is from a painting that hangs in Bombay.

Royal Mail said yesterday that it was sorry for any "inadvertent upset" caused, but that there were no plans to withdraw the stamp.

"Many have already been sold. Royal Mail is, of course, more than willing to meet representatives of the Hindu community and we will apologise personally to them for any unintentional offence caused."

However, Hindu leaders said this response was unacceptable. "We cannot accept the Royal Mail argument that the stamps cannot be recalled," said Ratilal Chohan, the general secretary of the Hindu Council of the North.
So they are going to try and ruin the Christmas post for everyone now. Brilliant.

Matt is your exclamation of Idiots directed at the Royal mail?
This is an organisation that has deliberately trod the pc line, pity they can't just sack some plonker these days. the one responsible is probably a one eyed gay imigrant from albania.

The donkies moaning for the stamps to be withdrawn are the idiots.
