Default 007's dirty habit banned as new star confirmed

JAMES BOND will be banned from smoking in his latest film as it could have a bad influence on children — but murder and torture are just fine, Daniel Craig said yesterday after being confirmed as the new 007.
Ian Fleming’s spy was a 70-a-day smoker but as an iconic hero for a PG 12 film in the 21st century, “it’s not quite the right thing”, the film’s director, Martin Campbell, said yesterday.

Glad to hear it. The more we do to eliminate the nasty habit of smoking, the better.

I'm fed up of walking around Manchester and having to inhale other people's smoke at the time.

And I'm fed up of people, including people I know, dying from smoking. In the 21st century, in a civilised country, this is something that we just can't tolerate any more.

In public places no.

In their own private place, yes or you can leave.

In a private establishment that chooses to allow it, yes, or you can leave.

Who's doing the banning? If it's self banning, then good on them for not promoting a stupid unhealthy habit. If it's the government, then why don't they ban the killing, torture etc etc too.

Even in private places, smoking has an effect on people around them.

I was referring to smoking in public places as regards my breathing other people's smoke (more specifically, just outside the entrances to buildings in which smoking is banned).

However, in relation to private places, what about people who smoke in their own homes? Think about their families, their kids who have no choice. What are you going to tell their kids, "you can leave if you don't like the fact that your dad smokes"?

Also, what when this person dies of a smoking-related disease? One of my relatives in extremely ill from a smoking-related disease (cancer) and is expected to die within the next few weeks. Are you saying that his smoking has not affected his wife? Also, what about all of his other relatives who are having their lives disrupted while they are helping out caring for this person? It's not their fault he smoked. I know for a fact that one of my very close relatives is undergoing a great deal of stress as a result of these events, despite having recently experienced a minor stroke and being told to avoid stress.

Smoking does not just affect the stupid person who chooses to partake in it, but has a significant effect on everyone around them. Don't ever defend smokers.

Not if they don't go there.

If I was a smoking Dad (which I am not), I would leave the house myself to smoke. My mum smoked, I left the room when I was old enough, but if you want to get the social round to those who don't, go for it.

No my nan probably died to passive smoking, thanks to my grandad. I dare say they were less "educated" about the whole issue.

I'll defend them to the hilt until they hurt others. If you wanted to put smoking on the list of spouse/child abuses in a persons own home, then I would find it hard to argue against that.

Strange... When I walk around Manchester I'm more worried about passive ugliness.

I actually don't see the point.

Correct me if no-one agree's with me, but why do we need iconic hero's for kids anyway? What use does it have for them? Can't they just respect their fathers instead, and if they've left home and made their kids in a ******* then who's faults that?

There is something to be said for not tolerating adhoc murders and torture as well.... and criminal acts
