Regarding Mr. Bond, I watched the 2nd Tomb Raider film the other week, which was rubbish, (though I thought the first one was watchable), but as I was sat wondering whether to watch to the end or go and watch some paint dry, I started comparing it to 007. Croft is quite clearly the up-to-date, hip, yoof version of our all-conquering hero. However, if I'm correct with this assumption, the fall from grace from the 60's to the new century has been huge. Now, I'm not old enough to say fuddy duddy things like that, but give me Dr. No over Tomb Raider any day - the question is, what do young people identify with, Laura Croft, Original Bond or New Bond? |

Smoking is only as bad as driving a car. Damn dirty habit that kills people. Greens in London have a 'Car free day' (a worldwide event probably). So what? It's a token gesture. If those that voted Green and those who shouted down smoking gave up their cars and never travelled by anything other than cycle or on foot, I would have some regard for their position. Until that happens it's merely yah-boo posturing. And what about sugar? Oh yes - and my father died of drink, and I don't mean water. Visit an A and E any weekend and just some of the evils of drink are apparent. Perhaps 50% of those cases later translate INTO phpbb_costly Court hearings and prison sentences. You won't find a smoker there or any of his family complaining about the effects of smoke. OK, they'll be seeing the specialist mid-week but we're either talking about social evils being banned or we're not. I don't smoke.

My local landlord is hopping about this nanny state intervention. As far as he is concerned, he is the owner of a Public House, and he decides who he serves and how he wants people to conduct themselves. If there was an overwhelming outrage (actual) against people smoking then he would ban it. The point is that this is an area for landlords to decide not micro state intervention.

I wonder if pubs renamed themselves smoking dens, that happened to serve drinks too, whether they would be banned from serving the drinks?

Did you know that the EU gives £592.1 million in tobacco subsidies every year?! I've just found out. Yet another reason to hate the EU.
