Cool Whither this year's NEC elections?

The NEC elections have been postponed because many of Nigel's most loyal supporters on that august body are up for re-election. Paul Nuttall having built up a strong power base in anticipation of this summer's leadership contest, Nigel can't be sure that his supporters would be re-elected and he needs them in place for a very controversial NEC vote to be held after the general election. So controversial in fact that he can't even be sure that the usually pliant Douglas Denny can be trusted to vote the way he is told - hence the contingency plans to expel Douglas Denny and Andrew Moncrieff (who is too much his own man) from the NEC should the need arise.

Consequently the NEC elections have been postponed until the vote in question is safely out of the way.

    Just thought you should know.

Nothing surprises me with regards NigeŁ Łarage - he runs the party for his own corrupt selfish ends.

    Always has always will.

Why have elections? Farage has the NEC he wants.

Actually the NEC elections were postponed for the perfectly good reason that we have the small matter of a general election to deal with.

Rubbish! To stand for the NEC all you have to do is fill in one form and get 10 signatures from your local branch. Canvassing and campaigning is barred, unless you have been nominated by Farage. It makes UKIP a laughing stock, a banana republic party. Abandon the rules and you are on the slippery slope to the one party state

Having stood several times, too, Yokel, I seem to recall that you need an edition of Independence News with candidate details, which takes editing, checking nominations etc. skills. Then there is the count - assuming not farmed out to the ERS - and then getting the new boys and girls up to speed in the middle of an election campaign.

Although I don't necessarily agree with it, I can see reasons for postponement...

ERS is in fact cheaper and quicker than internal ballot. Rest is all back office work. Nothing our great NEC members or MEPs deign to do.

No problem about getting up to speed, just say yes Nigel. Got to fill the newsletter with something anyway so no loss there either.

The blind see only what they are want to see/are shown. The general election is a convenient excuse.

QUESTION: Does the UKIP constitution allow for postponement of the NEC elections?

FURTHER QUESTIONS: Following the posponement of the NEC elections what is the status of those NEC members that were up for election? Have their terms come to an end? Are any votes cast by those NEC members valid?

FURTHER FURTHER QUESTION: If a controversial vote were to take place before the postponed elections - say a vote to merge UKIP into a Pan-European Political Party - could the votes of those term-expired NEC members be challenged in court by UKIPers discontented with what had become of their party?

Riddle-me-this Richard - can the postponement of the NEC elections be so easily shrugged off in light of the above information?

As you are no doubt aware there is no provision for this in the constitution.

FURTHER QUESTIONS: Following the posponement of the NEC elections what is the status of those NEC members that were up for election? Have their terms come to an end? Are any votes cast by those NEC members valid?
That remains to be seen. They would have attended the March meeting anyway.

FURTHER FURTHER QUESTION: If a controversial vote were to take place before the postponed elections - say a vote to merge UKIP into a Pan-European Political Party - could the votes of those term-expired NEC members be challenged in court by UKIPers discontented with what had become of their party?
That is a question for the lawyers.

Riddle-me-this Richard - can the postponement of the NEC elections be so easily shrugged off in light of the above information?
In my mind yes but If the situation is abused to try a pass a controversial decision I may alter my position.
