At the 2008 Business Conference, to a loud cheer, Whittaker assured the assembled members that UKIP had no problems; 'that man, that man', he yelled, pointing his finger at Bown, has promised to pay all the the costs and forfeiture. Can we assume, with talk of the Party now being driven into bankruptcy, that Whittaker's assurances were untrue? Does not the first promise contradict, the second prediction concerning bankruptcy?
Look at you getting excited because I have criticised Farage. Farage definately made a huge balls up on this one. For Farage et al to try and play chicken with ElCom and hope for a public campaign to make them change their mind is a truly pathetic defence. There's far too much reliance on others by Farage/UKIP - Farage relied on ElCom going easy on a small party which didn't work; he's also relying on rich donors to get the party out of the brown stuff. I must admit, I would have second thoughts about being a major donor of a party when my donation would be paying for previous debts.
skeptyk: I am certain that the Electoral Commission didn't like the small forfeiture at the second court case, but they would have accepted that, I am sure, if Farage has not said on the radio, television, in print and in public that the Commission was overtly politically biased. You can call them long-winded, expensive, jibbering idiots,
wasteful, and similar accusations. Once they say that they are corrupt or politically biased, in deference to their own name, they are forced to take action. That is true with any government department, but the El. Com. is relatively new; they cannot igonore such accusations. Silence from them, could be interpreted as guilt; they had to take action, and when the Chief Executive produces evidence, like that published in this weeks Sunday Telegraph, it is they who win the argument and not UKIP. Bown must be incandescent with rage with Andrew Smith for circulating that foolish e-mail, and with Farage for goading the Electoral Commission in the way that he did. That may explain Bown's recent reticence.
You are probably right.
By the way who will you be voting for in the leadership Geoffrey?
Can I suggest Gerard Batten as a good choice?
