    Graham Booth Resigns !

Well as no one else has mentioned this ,I understand that after a bruising exchange between Roger Knapman and Malcolm Wood re the selection process for MEP candidates in the South West which Graham Booth and his neice were mentioned GB walked out of the meeting and said " I resign ". All a bit David Davis really but without the added interest of a cause celebre to fight for .

Could this be the moment Trevor Coleman has been waiting for ? Or could it be the time for a grown up party to take the place of UKIP free of endless internal swabbles due to the lack of proper transparent management .

I have spoken to Malcolm Wood. He says:
Graham had been making plans to retire in favour of Trevor Coleman, in November, but announced at the start of Saturday's S/W committee meeting that he was bringing the date forward to October. He left early to attend a granddaughter's wedding

    graham Booth resigns

Petrina I am surprised at you for this ill informed posting.
The facts are these.Several weeks ago Graham decided to retire. He told the party leadership and there have followed meetings with Trevor Coleman
who as third on the list will replace Graham.
As agreed some time ago Graham will stand down at the end of September.
There were no heated exchanges. All was businesslike and matters settled over times and contracts etc.
The only reason Graham left a little early was to attend a family wedding.
A phone call to Malcolm Wood or even to Graham or Trevor could have avoided this misleading posting having been made.
    Regards

'Resigns' in this case means he stands down as an MEP in September? What happens between then and may next year - does coleman take over as MEP? And is he resigning as an MEP only or from the party as a whole?

Perhaps the real reason behind this is that Mr Booth can see the "writing on the wall" for UKIP next year and is already presuming that he would lose the seat anyhow.

    Who knows?

Au contraire, Malcolm just rang to point out that he forgot to mention that Graham's wife, Pam, has just had a heart-bypass op. I assume that the much care required will have been a big factor in the decision, and I wish her a speedy recovery...

Difficult choice: potential political rejection or family health responsibilities, not such a hard option really.

s4e, Don't understand your point. If he feared rejection he could stay as MEP until June and retire then without being 'rejected'. If Booth hasn't put himself forward as a candidate for the SW he won't be elected or rejected.

The candidates putting themselves forward for the SW list are Jeffrey Beer, Trevor Colman, William, Earl of Dartmouth, Eric Edmond, Julie Harrison, Stephanie McWilliam, Julia Reid, Rachel Tingle, Gawain Towler, Alan Wood. Since Booth will not be a candidate it is a physical impossibility for him to be rejected.

Oh well at least we can agree on two matters ,GB announced his intention to resign and then left early !

Not that I keep my ear to the ground much these days but it is news to me that GB is going in September and that TC is taking over .
