That depends. If you trust 'Honest' John Whittaker, then he would have you believe that they are indeed the same people, even though he knows that isn't true.

On the other hand, in reality, the 'party' was formed by someone who did attend that Grassroots meeting, but is nothing to do with the main group. To make that clear, they changed their name.

Unfortunately no matter how well intentioned, these things are talking shops that achieve nothing. No money just ideas that no one with any real clout listens to!

At least when they are sat around in endless conferences gassing away, massaging each other's egos they are not out in public embarrassing serious anti-EU campaigners.

Is GD part of UKIP or something like Veritas?

It's very difficult to run a conference and get enough decent speakers to draw a crowd. Unless you have 'names' who are committed to your cause you are going to have to end up paying them to come down to Bournemouth.

I wonder if these people will end up with a fiasco (and a big bill from the hotel)

When booking mention Phoenix Forum for upgraded rooms

Surely you have to tell them that anyway to get the allegedly discounted rates? (probably available to anybody through lastminute.com or Expedia)

It is interesting to note that in his reply to the Grassroots people's letter following their conference, Nigel Farage wrote: "Good luck with your new party". His letter as it appeared on this forum was undated, but Anthony posted it on 16 November - five days before the new party was registered with the Electoral Commission.

Nigel Farage's advance knowledge of the new party, together with chairman John Whittaker's attempt falsely to associate it with the Grassroots/Phoenix people, raises the question of whether the Grassroots Democracy Party was set up at the instigation of the UKIP leadership for the purpose of discrediting a group of members whom they perceive as a threat?

So should we be donouncing the Pheonix Forum as splitters or is that the two man Grass Roots Democracy Party? Surely Lechlade group must figure in here somewhere, and what about Veritas?

After all what have UKIP ever done for us?

    Badger's noses anyone?
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than to find the Vanitas 2007 AGM...

Very interesting Barboo. Very interesting indeed.

Thank you. In that case, his comment "Good luck with your new party" was made nine days, not five, before the new party was registered.

    barboo - this may help;-

    Domain Name:GRASSROOTSDEMOCRACYPARTY.ORG
    Created On:09-Nov-2007 21:34:56 UTC.

In other words, on a FRIDAY NIGHT at 1/2 9, the website was created and registered. Nigel's response was sent the following monday.

Clearly, Nigel and his advisors were truly on top of their game to be able to spot this new website in - I guess - around 6 working hours.
