Well it looks, at least in the short term, that UKIP has come out of it well in the media. The policy has been presented without any real criticism.

There had to be something clear cut, to make nonsense of the discredited waffle of the other parties. No where is it presented at keeping non whites out. If anything the opposite - keep E European settlers out so as not to upset the longer established ( mainly coloured ) settlers. The theme is to replace open ended immigration by job related time frame work permits as used in the Middle East & Caribbean and sensible countries elsewhere in the world.

Bear in mind that the ONS projections allow for 7,000,000 more immigrants - and that is net - if I remember right they use a figure of 150,000 as the outflow and then revise it retrospectively.
The ethnic make up of the UK is going to change drastically over the next 10 to 15 years.
Even moderate minded people have had enough and second generation immigrants who regard themselves as British/? have had enough.
If we believe in a five year moratorium why should we be embarrassed to promote it?
Some of us need to get out and about into working class pubs more often and hear what those at the bottom of the pay scale are talking about.
IF THE EU WAS THE ANSWER, IT MUST HAVE BEEN A STUPID QUESTION!
An excellent point - this is why UKIP's strategy of aiming its policies at the right wing of the Tories is misguided. About 15% of the electorate no longer vote - doesn't it seem most likely that these are traditional Labour voters who no longer have a party representing them?
I am one of the working class people and a member of the ukip and i understand how the working class think and say down the pub.
Can't remember saying this before, I totally agree with your posting here Petrina! I haven't found anyone who looks upon the present rate of immigration as acceptable. I think this policy will gain UKIP more members not just voters! It is still space not race that is important! If one or two "Libby's, don't agree , so what, who cares!"
At the moment it is still all headlines and no substance. UKIP appears to have removed the cap on the number of people coming to Britain, so if enough people can show they have jobs and accomodation to come to, the immigration numbers (for workers) could actually increase under this scheme.
We need to hope that the policy paper, when it eventually appears, has actually got some concrete facts and figures about how many people this would affect.
It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that since the scheme is really only going to impact on unskilled migrant labour, and even then only if they don't have work lined up beforehand, the actual number of people refused entry to the UK could be very small.

Only way to test the water...
...next local bye-election have this policy as the centre plank of the campaign.
See if UKIP gets more than a few dozen votes!
I for one am not affraid of MSM attacks over this zero immigration policy.
I recall that when David Cameron called UKIP "Fruitcakes and closet racists, mostly" UKIP got the right to reply and in a way it gave UKIP a lot of publicity. I also recall that in the 2001 (?) election Michael Howard was banging on about "It's not racist to set numbers on immigration" or something similar, and it featured on Conservative posters too. So clearly for the Tories to try and attack us as racists on this issue would be a non starter!
I don't think we will be attacked much over this. I think the tired old three and the MSM would like the zero immigration policy to be swept quietly under the carpet. They don't want a zero immigration policy shouted from the rooftops.
Any attack on UKIP for advocating zero immigration from the Liebour party would also have the potential to backfire badly, as it would simply draw attention to Labours deeply irresponsible open door mass immigration policy.
"There's no way to rule innocent men.
The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals.
Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them.
One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."~ Ayn Rand.
