Default UKIP: Worrying gaps in minister's immigration plan

    From the official website:

Nigel Farage MEP, UKIP Leader, today described Immigration Minister Damian Green's recent speech as: "An interesting and significant statement of principles, but with some worrying gaps and thorny problems."
Farage said: "Though this addresses non-EU migration to the UK, there is a gaping hole in our borders left by our membership of the European Union. With the EU promoting increasing circles of visa-free travel from Ukraine, the Balkans and beyond, these plans do nothing to address that pressing and increasing problem.

On the detail, Farage questions how aspects of the plans would work: "With a wage cap of £31,000 on migration, one does have to question if he has thought through his dream of a 'premiership' of arts and science practitioners coming to Britain. In these fields young talent is normally not paid at that level, either in research or in the arts. The 'Premier League' model he refers to only works because it is the wealthiest league in the world, we cannot say the same in the sciences and the arts - or for that matter in other sports beyond football.

"So two cheers then for Mr Green's approach, but I will not be holding my breath about his ability to implement these plans. He will have massive opposition from the Labour and the Lib Dems to overcome, and that is before we even think about the actions of the European Court of Human Rights."

The Lib/Lab/Com believe in an open immigration policy to all 500 million EU citizens of the European Union. The so called immigration cap does not apply to immigration from the European Union. It is a very loose fitting cap.
